Evening Attire Too Classy in Stuyvesant
From The Bloodhorse:
Evening Attire returned to his favorite strip at Aqueduct to put an end to his nine race losing streak, grinding out a neck victory over West Virginia in the $108,600 Stuyvesant Handicap (gr. III) Saturday.

Coaxed to victory by Jose Santos, the 7-year-old Black Tie Affair gelding overtook West Virginia and the pacesetting Aggadan in the final stages of the 1 1/8-mile test for just his second win in his last 18 starts. His only victory in that period came almost 15 months ago in the Saratoga Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. II).

"I knew I was going to win at the quarter pole," said Santos. "He just took off. I think he did enough just to get by."

West Virginia, ridden by Norberto Arroyo Jr., edged 2-1 favorite Aggadan and Cornelio Velasquez by three-quarters of a length for second. The final time was 1:51 1/5 on a fast track.

I am so glad the old boy finally made it back the the winners circle. You gotta love a classy, tough old horse like Evening Attire. His trainer should be proud of what the old boy has accomplished. He's a Hall of Famer in my eyes.

1. I watched this race from Churchill Sat.
One of our owners and me were screaming our heads off in the
dining room, rooting for him. He was very game.

2. He's a good old horse...
I hope your trip to Churchill went well. I haven't been keeping up much with racing the last few months. We went on a buying spree and we are getting the farm ready for winter. I went and picked up a load of third cutting alfalfa today. $3 a bale. But, it's nice hay.

I've got Mr. T on a trainers watch with DRF so now that things have quieted down I can get back to rooting for you guys. I hope everyone in your racing family has a Happy Thanksgiving.

4. Here at the race track we pay 33.00 for a bale of alfafa.
Everything is so expensive here.

We were third at Churchill.

5. Ouch! I think I'm gonna go into the hay business...
in NY. Living in farm country has it's advantages I guess. Cheap hay in the winter and in the summer, for excitement, we get to sit around and watch it grow.

Glad you got a check at Churchill. Were you happy with your horses effort?

OB, did Snake Mountain retire? I think he did but I can't remember. He was always so good at Aqueduct in the winter.

7. I am not sure what happened to him.
He was always a winter horse. He had serious foot problems.

3. Some good news...
in a horrible week of horse racing happenings: Rock Hard Ten retired, jockey death in Ohio, Diamond Omi euthanized.

Glad to see that old knocker come through again ... wish more horses had the career he's had. Perfect Drift, similar runner -- impossible not to root for horses like that.

6. So true aaronbees...
horses like Evening Attire are so rare today. When they do come along you just have to root for them. When he's done with his race career he deserves Hall of Fame induction.
