Detroit Lions: The Wrong Guy Got Fired.....
...From ESPN:
Rather than assume his share of responsibility for the Lions' annual collision with icebergs, Millen fired his third head coach since assuming the job in 2001. With the exception of Los Angeles Clippers VP Elgin Baylor, I can't think of a front office executive who has won less and still kept his job. In fact, Millen recently received a contract extension, which is like giving an Oscar to Jackie Chan.

1. The Ford family is the root of the problem.
They must not be football fans because they wouldn't tolerate losing for as long as they have if they were. Millen needs to go and it's obvious to everyone but them.
I grew up in the Detroit area and that team hasn't been worth a damn since the early 60's.

2. i hate the "fire the coach" culture
this seems to be springing up a lot more in NCAA, and has always been a problem in the NFL. A coach calls the plays, and runs practice. The players have to execute, and the owners need to recrute. Firing a coach for losing is moronic, especially when after THREE COACHES they still lose. Pretty fucking obvious it's not a coaching problem

3. Wondered
I was surprised that Mariccui seemed to do a good job in San Fransico and then do so poorly in Detroit.

4. So now Millen and the Ford family can get back to their "winning ways"?
Mariucci had a better record with the Lions than Millen has, and he had a better record with the Lions than the Ford family has. Obviously they had to get rid of him, because he was making them look bad.

5. Here's something that I have noticed...
I can't be the only one to notice this, but has anyone noticed that Matt Millen has taken a team that was a field goal away from going to the playoffs before he arrived to this? Am I the only one?

In Elgin Baylor's defense, you could really make the case that the owner of the Clippers doesn't want to win, considering how the Clippers don't spend money, AT ALL.
