1. I think at this point...
Everyone just feels sorry for them.

I can't believe Favre is still refusing to call it a career. The man was a fucking legend and now it seems like he is going to go down as the man who just wouldn't quit while he was ahead.

2. What the hell happened on that safety call?
I left the Stardust after Detroit apparently went ahead 15-13, then I turn on the car radio and it's still tied at 13. Bizarre. I thought it was either holding in the end zone or intentional grounding by the running back. That's what the announcers were saying when I left.

Regardless, Detroit covered the +7. I have no idea why the public is intoxicated giving substantial points with losing teams. Green Bay went from -6 to -7. The other example of a losing team not covering a high spot was Tennessee barely edging Houston after being a 7 point favorite all week. At least the bettors wisely took that one down somewhat before gametime. I think next week Miami will be a losing team giving sizable points to the Jets. Give me the Jets at +6 or higher. Only one example like that has lost in more than a month, the 49ers barely missing the handicap at Tennessee.

3. intentional grounding was challenged and overturned
because the guy was outside the tackle (can't ground out there) - and the holding apparently was not in the end zone(?) - although I am not sure about that one. That's what I gathered about it though - because they declined that penalty.

4. And of course the Lions...
...in true Lions fashion declined the holding penalty which would almost certainly have given them the safety because they hold was more than likely in the end zone.

And then Shaun Rogers commits a cheap personal foul for no reason whatsoever, sending GB into field goal range. The Lions can think of more ways to beat themselves....sigh.

5. no - they ruled the holding was not in the end zone -
that is WHY they did not take the penalty (for 1/2 yard and keep the down).

The Lions did the right thing considering the circumstances.

6. Thanks, I didn't hear that.
But nothing justifies Shaun Rogers' idiotic personal foul.

7. no - that was the dumbest thing I ever saw.
Plus, why did they go for it on 4th and goal in a tie game, with the clock running down, when they had effectively stopped Green Bay's offense in the 2nd half with a QB SNEAK?!?!

:headsmack:

Note - I was rooting for GB.

9. if a kicker can get cut
for losing a game, I'd love to see Rogers get cut, today, for that stupid penalty. that would send a decent message to the rest of the team, I think. It's what Parcells would do.

8. it's an interesting question
does a penalty happen at the point that it begins, or where it ends? it's only really relavant in a holding call, but if I start holding you at the .5 yard line, and you drive me back into the end zone while I am holding you, where is the penalty called? I don't think the rule book actually adresses that problem, so the crew deferred to the penalty counting at the point it began, not where it finished.

I wonder if that's ever happened before?

and it wouldn't have been even a half yard, as I recall, the ball was on about the foot and a half line, the penalty would have been less than a ball length...the Lions made the right call there, they just didn't play defense.

10. The mystery is how these teams have combined to win 7 games
and why they continue to start Garcia when he's personally responsible for three losses.
