35. He isn't a "boy". Why would you care if he left 2 seconds early.
Funny thing that people are just as vunerable to media hype with sports as they are with politics. Far worse players have come and gone. We had a quarterback that beat his wife regularly, but you didn't hear about that. Much more offensive are the sex and violent ads Fox takes in for revenue. They have far more reaching affects on behavior in real life. If football players do you're not spending enough time with your kids.

We've got one in the White House. Why do we need to see it on the field? I'm mean, it would be ok in Pop Warner, but this is the pros. You've got to bring your "A" game, even to "celebrations." No?

I thought it was stupid, but not anything worth a fine. A 15 yard excessive celebration penalty would have been appropriate though.

But, hearing Joe Buck squeel like a pig was worth it.

I hope he embarrasses every fucking announcer that's been hugging his balls.

-One thing it does do is make me appreciate Marvin Harrison so much more. It also makes me miss Barry Sanders. I love guys who'll just hand the ball to the ref and go sit down. Real pros.

huh? maybe barry sanders, but marvin harrison? man, the media has done a job making these colt players into golden boys.....

harrison is a selfish athlete. last year, when his team was *winning*, he complained because he wasn't getting the ball! and he had said before that he'd take a pay cut, just to make sure he could stay with peyton manning (colts are in a bit of cap trouble)..... but did you see this 32 year old's new contract this year? completely went back on his word.

and the worst part was, while we heard the opposite of harrison's actions attributed to him, we heard no corrections from these bullshit announcers, once he demonstrated otherwise.

this little celebration of randy's, is the last i can ever remember him doing anything other than handing the ball to a ref, or finding a kid or some disabled person to give the ball to, in the last 7 seasons. did you not know randy did that, or just don't give a shit?

earlier in the year, he gave *2* touchdown balls, to a man in a wheelchair, who was dying, and there as part of the 'make-a-wish foundation.' and not only did he give 'em to the guy, but he stayed both times and grabbed this guy's arms a bit and celebrated with him.....

i fucking cried after watching that, and i tear up everytime i see a picture of that or think of it, to be honest..... i saw my best friend in that man, and to see the smile randy put on that man's face..... he forgot he was dying, for just a moment, as he had the attention of a superstar, and forgot he was even in a wheelchair, you can bet..... it was beautiful.

my best friend and his family, would give anything to forget all that, for even just a second, and have just a moment where it doesn't consume them, and isn't even in the back of their mind.....

yet that shit didn't get any media play. and neither did the other myriad times randy's done those things.

stop being lazy folks. you should realize more than others how the media can affect perception..... so go and do your own work, instead of relying on them, if you're to have such opinions.

16. Seriously.....
are we going to start that "what about the children" crap with this or something?
I thought it was funny -- exactly the kind of moment that all those commentators who feigned such outrage LIVE for.
What I DID think was offensive was the commercial for a computer game titled "Mercenary," that showed animated characters saying things like they "shoot first and ask questions later," or don't use a small bomb when a big one will do.
THIS is the kind of thing we should worry about with children -- but watch all the columnists and pundits come out and criticize Moss for this possibly tasteless, but ultimately harmless act, like it's the second coming of Janet Jackson's nipple.

Edited on Sun Jan-09-05 09:09 PM by BrainRants
And I caught the Mercenary commercial too and thought it was offensive and inappropriate as well.

As were the commercials for FOX's other moral values show with the Hilton skanks.

I'm just as tolerant as the next guy (and still mourning the Packer loss) but my problem is that this is on FOX, and they have an echo chamber over in their news (loose term) division that likes to glorify this kind of shit when it's on other networks. How many diatribes about a partially exposed nipple consumed their airwaves for the first two months of the year?

Because of that they should be held to a higher standard.

Not trying to pick a fight, just trying to noodle through my opinion publicly.

:)

On edit: Moss is still a douchebag.

I think a lot of this "outrage" is simply because it's Randy Moss who did it. Touchdown celebrations are fun. Telling the fans who rip you all game long to get fucked is fun. Will I like it if he does it to me next week? Hell no, but it will be because he scored that I'm pissed not because of whatever celebration he does. If Al Harris wasn't such a crap corner we wouldn't even be talking about this.

even when he does something great, he has to ruin it with something idiotic and disgusting.

You have to assume that some high profile arrest is simply inevitable at this point?

Was the celebration that bad? No. But nothing Moss does can be taken in isolation. If it as any other receiver on the Vikings, it wouldn't be that big a deal. But no other receiver has pulled the amount of nonsense that Moss has over the years.

The kind of thing I roll my eyes at and forget about 5 minutes later. The people that are SOOOOO offended by it and afraid for their children should think about the commercials usually aired during football games... beer commercials with big chested, barely clad women; drugs for erections; video games for killing people. These commercials are played over and over again, the few seconds of Randy Moss acting dumb probably wasn't seen by most kids and will soon be forgotten.

This whole thing isn't worth the paper it will be written on in today's newspapers.

51. I thought people overreacted to this as well.
There were 2 seconds left before an onside kick, the game was over. Even if they recovered the ball the clock would have been expired. It's not like the Scottie Pippen incident where he refused to go on the floor for the final seconds because the last shot wasn't his. That's classless and selfish. People just love to hate Moss.
