I am sick of Barry Bonds
that guy's act wore thin years ago. I respect his abilities, his work ethic and so on. The steroids controversy gave the already difficult Bonds a serious credibility problem. Plus, he's not a winner. In the middle of a pennant race, at a crucial time, he sat out a few games last year. He has no mettle and is a selfish poison pill to a team. The guy is a great player, but a bad teammate. This lastest flap about him retiring then not retiring, blah blah blah. The guy just sickens me nowadays, and I always defended him in the past. I think you should give a person the benefit of the doubt, but his antics are just trite. Enough already. And, to think, this guy will probably break Hank Aaron's record. Hank was a great player and is a great man, Bonds isn't in his class.

1. I judge sports figures by their playing ability.
First, I never trust the media's protrayal of anyone. They have to turn everyone into either a hero or goat with no middle ground, and once they do, every story they write afterwards takes that slant. Never, never, never, never, never, never think you know someone just because you've read what the media says.

Bonds is a good example. In a private conversation with a reporter, he mentions he doesn't feel like playing next year. So the story gets published as "Bonds says this is his last year!" What, no waiting for an official announcement, no press conference?

Same thing with Terrel Owens. Last year he's complimenting his teammates in an interview. In the context of how good the team is, and how injured McNabb is, he's asked if he agrees with Michael Irvin's assessment that the team would be indefeated with a healthy quarterback like Brett Favre. TO agrees with the comment. When the media is through misrepresenting the interview, they have Owens claiming McNabb is a lousy QB and he's rather have a white quarter back for some racist reason. None of that was in the interview, it was all in the spin afterwards.

After watching what they've done to Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Terrel Owens, Jerry Jones, and just about everybody else they decide to turn into a villain, I never trust anything they say about a person.

Barry Bonds hits homeruns damn well for an old man, when he's not injured. That's the only thing I truly think I know about him. If he beats Aaron's record, all that will prove to me is that he hit more home runs than Aaron, who may or may not be a class act--I don't trust the positive things the media says, either.

Just my two cents.

6. Barry is ridiculous
He is such an obvious roidhead. I had the chance to get up close and personal with him when he was a rookie and there is no freaking way one's body can change so much without artificial means. It's as if he turned into a completely different physiological being...and I've been really up and really down in terms of fitness, so I feel comfortable saying it. He'll never avoid the asterisk, and he'll never be in the same class as Aaron and Mays.

As far as defending TO, please. There are times I almost feel sorry for him, because I do think he's mentally ill, but why should anyone feel the need to defend a petulant millionaire? At best he should fire Rosenhaus, hire a psychologist, and try to get well.

2. Bonds' record will always be cloaked in a shroud of
controversy. I do not believe the question of whether Hank Aaron did steroids will ever pop up. Hank will always remain MY baseball hero. And Aaron will always have my repect as a real gentleman and role model.

Bonds Critical of Notable Internet Poster

(SI.com) Monday, February 20, 2005, 7:42 PM

Amid the flurry of controversy regarding his decision not to report to spring training, San Fransisco Giants star Barry Bonds made comments taking aim at poster "Wetzelbill" from the liberal internet discussion board Democraticunderground.com.

"I take it for granted when the sports media tries to attack me," said Bonds, "but when people at my favorite internet site criticize me...you know...that really hurts."

...

Focusing in particular on DU poster "Wetzelbill" he stated "you know, I respect Wetzelbill's views on politics, but for him to call me a selfish poison pill to a team...well, that's just wrong. I am sick of such comments and frankly I am sick of Wetzelbill."
