Duke: The most overrated #1 seed ever? |
|
This team can barely compete with the bottom-feeders of the ACC.
So, will they become the first #1 seed to lose in the 1st round? Or will they get dumped in the round of 32, or will they overachieve and get to the Sweet 16 before getting whipped there?

1. Do you realize that they only lost 2 games in the ACC all year? |
|
UCONN, Villanova and Pitt were all beaten by unranked Syracuse, a 9 seed in the Big East tournament...nobody's calling them overrated. Hell even George Washington was beaten by Temple!
Wake was a nationally ranked team until the middle of January, they have dangerous players on that team, just no point guard

3. actually, I think Memphis probably is |
|
a little overrated, but they've earned it. Duke is not as good as people tend to think it is, but that's how they tend to play. Coach K is an ACC coach. It seems like they always win the ACC tournament and then another ACC team goes farther in the NCAA's. which is what I think will happen again this year.

10. Memphis overrated? We're not on the map for most of the |
|
commentators. We had arguably the toughest non-conference schedule out there and we only lost to ranked teams like Duke(only by 3), Texas, and UAB away at the end of the year, and we won our conference. Our conference is weak but we can't do anything about that. I think with our wins in the NCAA we have proved our status as a number one seed. I would love another crack at duke again to beat them.

2. georgetown showed how to beat Duke |
|
put a big, quick guy on JJ Redick, drive to the hoop whenever possible to score inside and get fouls. Let Redick score 50 points if he can, make him shoot with someone on his face every time. And get Shelden Williams into foul trouble. Duke will not, I don't think (and I've seen them play 15 times this year, at least) get past the elite 8, and they;ll need a favourable matchup in the sweet 16.
So that's how you beat Duke, they are overdependant on the 3, and that sort of team is always beatable. they aren't particularly fast, or particularly big, but they do have Redick, perhaps the sweetest shooter i've seen since Reggie Miller, and Williams, the best low post defender in a long time. Make the fabulous freshmen beat you. Of course, only a couple of teams can pull that off.

4. Duke is in the same region as my beloved Hawkeyes |
|
And the Hawks play solid midwest defense. Unless Reddick can score around 50 points, I do not think they can get past Iowa. The Big 10 is also the toughest conference in America, according to the RPI ratings.

but they did deserve a No. 1 seed. I think they will make it to the ELite Eight.

6. Unfotunately, I don't think they're overrated |
|
Not dominant but I don't think anyone is claiming that. I have them rated #2 in the country based on my system of using selective preseason rankings and keeping them intact all year, regardless of results. Worked well again this year. My #1 is down the list but I'll expect some so-called upsets from them in the NCAAs.

7. Duke earned it, reg season champ and tourney champ. |
|
Didn't see that from the vaunted top Big East teams.
Bottom feeders, eh? So that makes the Big 10, what? Scum-on-the-bottom feeders? Hardly.
I wouldn't be surprised to see any one of the 3 top ACC teams in the Final Four.

Tennessee as a 2 seed is ridiculous.
And Carolina got a 2 seed and was the only such seeded team not to be placed in their own locale--because despicable Coach K complained that "Carolina fans in Greensboro would boo my team on national TV!"
Most hated letters in the alphabet: W, then K.

11. Really? He said that? |
|
I can't stand him.
Michigan gets booed on national TV all the time, and you don't hear the coaches crying about it.
