The Washington Redskins agreed to terms with the Steelers' Antwaan Randle El this afternoon, according to a report on washingtonpost.com citing a source with knowledge of the situation.

Randle El, 26, will join Brandon Lloyd, 24, who was acquired from San Francisco on Friday, and Santana Moss as the Redskins attempt to improve their passing game in 2006, the news site said.

1. 35 catches
one touchdown. Not worth that kind of money at all.

3. I heard
The Skins are making a mistake by paying El this kind of money, he's a great asset but he's not an improvement at receiver over what they have in Washington now with Santana Moss. This move makes me think that the Steelers will probably draft another one of those versataile guys on offense, Ive heard Michael Robinson of Penn State and Brad Smith of Missouri mentioned with Steelers draftniks. I'll miss El too but he's replacable. Football is still a business after all.

4. he's the counter to Moss
Santana is still the number one, Randel el is number two, and Llyod is number 3. I think the reason they are paying him this kind of money is not his receiving, it's his kick returns/option pass/end around type options. With a creative coach, who knows what he can do? And Lloyd, if he ever gets his head together, could be frightening, the man has hands of platinum.

5. Right and they're paying El the kind of money
you should pay a number one receiver. I think El is a fine player but I don't think he's a legit number 2 man, I dont know it depends how Saunders and Gibbs utilitize him but El's real strength isn't what he does as a receiver but what he does in trick plays, this year El was the center piece in two trick plays, one in the divisional game against the Bengals and the other against the Seahawks in the super bowl. Also El didn't return kicks for the Steelers, that was more Quincy Morgan, Ricardo Cocolough doing that than him. If the Redskins use El right, then it will prove a good signing but I think they are way overpaying him. El basically was the number 2 reciever on the team this year after Hines Ward and he didn't have an impressive receiving year. He's a good asset, don't get me wrong but I think Snyder is making the same mistake he's been making, overpaying talent.

6. yes, he's probably overpaying
but if one trick play a game is the difference (or the threat of a trick play) between 10-8 and 12-6 and a first round win, who's to say it's not worth it?

Randel el, well used, is a brilliant feint player, you have to take him seriously when he does whacky things. and that frees up Saunders to take advantage of Moss, Lloyd and Portis in a new way, I think.
