Keith Hernandez: 'Women Don't Belong In Dugout'(on Padres Female Trainer)

New York Mets broadcaster Keith Hernandez's comment that women "don't belong in the dugout" drew criticism Sunday from San Diego Padres manager Bruce Bochy, who supported the female member of his training staff and said he was surprised her gender even came up.

Hernandez made the remark during the second inning of New York's 8-1 victory in San Diego on Saturday night. Mike Piazza homered for the Padres and exchanged a high-five in the dugout with 33-year-old Kelly Calabrese, the Padres' massage therapist.

"Who is the girl in the dugout, with the long hair?" Hernandez said. "What's going on here? You have got to be kidding me. Only player personnel in the dugout."

Hernandez found out later in the broadcast that Calabrese was with the Padres training staff.

"I won't say that women belong in the kitchen, but they don't belong in the dugout," Hernandez said.

Idiot! BTW Keith the rough tough Pittsburgh Steelers have a female trainer on their staff who's on the sidelines every game!

Yes, I think he is a idiot. It seems that Eric Kacilus is about to defend him. Before he went to break he said that "Hernandez is right and you (fans) are wrong". It seems to me that Hernandez may be jealous that Calabrese gets to be in the dugout and he (Hernandez) does not. I will come back and report on what Kacilus says in defense of Hernandez.

5. Hernandez wouldn't like it at my school.

I go to Louisiana College. We have female student trainers for every sport at my college. When I played football we had 4 female student trainers plus the head of the athletic training program, who happens to be female, on the sideline of every game. Hell, at my high school our trainer is female. So this is nothing new to me and probably many, many other athletes across the country, so I see the kind of attitude that Hernandez shows is going to die out. Besides, I'd rather have a woman work on me anyway. It must be the soft, gentle touch. :*

and an athletic trainer...oh yeah and a woman...Keith can kiss my ass. I know many females who are breaking into professional sports with this profession, and we are every bit as competent and professional as any man. Actually this semester we had 2 women at my college do an internship with the Philadelphia Flyers, and talking to them about their experiences, the players were all gentlemen and didn't care whether women were in their locker rooms. As long as they did their jobs, nobody cared.
