LOL. Worst. Sports. Year. Ever.
I guess I just have to laugh and congratulate those of you who are happy about the outcomes of all these various championships. It couldn't be worse! No Big Ten Teams! No Canadian teams! ARRRRGGGGGHHH. Well, even though I disagree with many of you about sports, I guess we agree on the larger issues of life, so, although I can't celebrate any of the championships we've seen so far (NCAA football, NCAA basketball, Stanley Cup, and the NBA finals) I AM glad for my sports buddies on this board. The ONLY saving grace was the Super Bowl, and since I live in Seattle, even though I was glad Pittsburgh won, all my friends were bummed out.

How's that for a back-handed congratulatory email?

You know I love you guys, even if I hate your teams.

2.  I know! I just don't want to jinx it.
It could be a fun summer. True, I'm not celebrating the Pistons and Wings championships I was hoping for but I DO love the Tigers. I'm going to see them in a couple of weeks!

5. Heck yeah!
All teams from Florida, with the exception of the Dolphins. I don't have any real reason for not hating them - just liked them as a kid.

8. The Dolphins are the one team I don't care much about
I've been a Raiders fans since I was a kid playing football on the streets of Miami, thinking I was Ted Hendricks. But I'm sure you hate the Raiders also.

4. Everyone I know in Seattle was happy!
They're tired of the Paul Allen routine, and rooted for Pittsburgh to trounce the hometown goofballs.

6. Oh, well, then you weren't at my party
It was pretty somber at the end.

9. Oh yeah, it would have been better if Seattle hadn't been in it
We had some people who were so serious about the game that they sat in a separate room and we called it "The Library" and would ostentatiously tiptoe in and out and whisper, while bringing them their food and drink. You know Seattlites! Unreserved joy is not their style. Some people wouldn't even COME to the party because they didn't want to watch with a group. We had a lot more fun other years when people didn't care so much about the game.

10. I'm pretty satisfied
Edited on Thu Jun-22-06 02:18 AM by realisticphish
College football wise, the Buckeyes started off iffy, but ended strong as hell, and reloaded for next year (though D still worries me a little). Basketball, we did great in a year that was supposed to be a rebuilding year (and captured regular season Big Ten champs for mens AND womens, and tourney champs for womens). Hockey we sucked at this year, which REALLY pissed me off, especially since this was supposed to be a good year.

My Bengals didn't suck, which kicked ass. Unfotunately, the Steelers won the superbowl. Nothing can describe my deep and utter loathing for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Bah, whatever.

NBA, I'm a Cavs fan (sort of), and I was glad to see us put some numbers up, and frankly, Lebron needed a good playoff to settle him down some.

NHL, the Bluejackets didn't come even CLOSE. After them, I'm a Detroit fan, so I was disappointed again (but I was glad to see the Canes win instead of Edmonton)

So, not a bad year. I'd give it a B- (the Buckeyes sucking at hockey brings it down a LOT)

12. Needless to say (but I'll say it anyway), I'm pretty satisfied, too.
While I'm sorry it was at your Buckeye's expense (I think when we won that game, we sealed the deal for the Rose Bowl!), the NCAA Football Championship is more than enough to compensate for the disappointment of the Astros, Cowboys, Spurs, NCAA Basketball, NCAA Baseball, etc. At least till fall! ;)

15. that was the one game in my memory
that I wasn't all that upset about losing. We seemed to be pretty fairly matched teams, and it game down to luck mixed with errors on our part (duel quarterbacks... what the fuck?). I was glad to see that it came down to a close game. Anything else would have been a disappointment

16. Sure! Michigan-Ohio State, it's war, baby
If you've ever heard the OSU take on Michigan's fight song, you'd realize that I am entirely justified, no matter what I say about them.

17. Yes, I have
I've sung it loudly, while freezing in mirror lake. And I've heard similarly obscene versions for every Big Ten fight song, including our own. Whoopdeeshit. I know a particularly amusing one sung to Minnesota's fight song, that came from Wisconson. Yeah, it's a rivalry, but there's no need for random venom just because i MENTIONED Ohio State. You mention michigan all the time, yet I don't randomly attack you.

I'm all for good natured ribbing; I have friends who are michigan fans, and we dog each other all the time. But Jesus, there's no need to be hateful when all I did was mention the Buckeyes. Get a life.

19. Oh, and PS, when I say "Ack!"
and reference "insult to injury", how does that not fall under the category of good natured ribbing? It's not like I said anything profane about Ohio State. And, if you knew I didn't like them, I think you were kinda randomly bringing up the Buckeyes. And I THOUGHT I responded in kind.

11. Boxing
I would hope that you would be pleased with the state of the sport of boxing. Other than the heavyweight division, the sport is strong. And there are a few good heavyweights hat could change that division for the better, too.

I'm sure Detroit fans are encouraged with the son of Tommy "the Hit Man" Hearns.
