New FIFA World Rankings
Edited on Fri Jul-14-06 03:56 PM by northzax
and they might actually be useful, sorta, this time (it's a much better system, not perfect, but much better, takes the last 4 years into account, more points for wins, more benefit for playing a tough schedule and doing well in international tournaments instead of friendlies. one gripe is that there is no bonus for winning on the road.

without further ado:
1 Brazil 1630 0 803
2 Italy 1550 11 822
3 Argentina 1472 6 726
4 France 1462 4 713
5 England 1434 5 693
6 Netherlands 1322 -3 554
7 Spain 1309 -2 553
8 Portugal 1301 -1 551
9 Germany 1229 10 533
10 Czech Republic 1223 -8 451
.

.
16 USA 933 -11 177

1. That's a more realistic ranking for Team USA
That number 5 ranking was hanging over their heads all tournament long.

2. The US was WAY overrated
The #16 ranking is more realistic and reflecting the real strength of the US men's team. Watch us play a mile over our heads in 2010 and have the ranking soar even higher.

4. That's much better
16th, and two spots ahead of Mexico. That's about where they belong.

5. still too high
I'd say mid 20's, at best. Mexico is also overrated.

For the U.S., 2002 was a fluke. They beat Mexico to get to the quarters.

England at 5 is a joke...

is 2010 here yet?
