Anyone looking forward to the Pride FC Open Weight Grand Prix tonight?

Even though I'm more of a UFC fan, this event is going to be the MMA event of the year. It starts at 1AM Sunday (tonight). You can watch a live feed of it on Afreeca: http://afreeca.pdbox.co.kr/. It's 100% legal to watch it on Afreeca (as well as watching the UFC's), so you're not breaking the law. Also Afreeca's good because 90% of MLB games are on there.

I think Silva will beat Crocop, and Big Nog will beat Barnett. Then I'd pick Nog to beat Silva.

Well I couldn't have been more wrong. Crocop looked better than he's ever looked.

I've never watched a pride event. UFC Has been my entire MMA experience in all honesty. One day I'll have to rectify this.

3. Many think Pride is better than UFC.

I think they're about equal.

Pride's heavyweight division is much better than the UFC's, but the UFC's welterweight division is the most stacked division in MMA (Pride doesn't have a 170 division). At 205 and 185 Pride and UFC are about equal. At 155 Pride might be slightly better, but that's because the UFC is just bringing back 155. Except for Pride's heavyweights and UFC's welterweights, the top guys in Pride and UFC are about equal. Pride has a deeper talent pool because they pay their fighters considerably more.

The two biggest drawbacks for me for Pride are the ring and no elbows. I can't stand the ring for an MMA match, the cage or octagon is much better. Pride allows kicks on the ground though, which is good, but the UFC can't have them anymore because of American politicians (mostly John McCain).

Pride's comming to Vegas next month. They'll have to change some rules because of US politicians, but it should be good: http://www.pridefc.com/pride2005/us_event.htm

Thanks for the info. Yah the ring for Pride just seems.. I don't know off for me. I do prefer the octagon as well.

On a side note UFC has really done great numbers lately. Their PPVS have been selling extremely well. Dana White should be beaming quite well.

I'm vaguely aware of a spoiler on one of the fights, but I still can't wait to see it.

6. Wow, Silva took a beating...

I wonder if he will be the same? Would have been nice to see Fedor in the event. Looks like he is making his comeback next month.

7. Something you might not have noticed as well....his ribs

Not only was the obvious damage done, but from photos, he looks like he had bruised or cracked ribs, as well. Crocop destroyed him. I've never seen a top fighter like Silva be totally dominated and damaged that much. Sure he was moving up one weight class, but he actually weighed in heavier than Crocop.

Also, Fedor's fighting next month against Coleman in their event in Las Vegas event - it's on October 10th. I'm ready to see Fedor against Crocop again. This time Crocop actually has a ground game. He laid some devastating ground n' pound on both Silva and Barnett. He's never been able to do that before. That being said, I'd still think Fedor would win, but this makes it seem like it would be a lot closer than last time.
