Wildcats' motto painted on ASU's field

Tucson, Arizona | Published: 11.24.2006

PHOENIX - Arizona State football players found an unpleasant surprise when they took
to the practice field Thursday.

A blue "A" and "Bear Down," the University of Arizona motto, had been painted on their turf
.
A UA red "A" also had been painted on the rocks on the north side of nearby "A" Mountain,
which overlooks ASU and the Sun Devil Stadium.

ASU's traditional gold "A" on the south and east sides of the mountain had not been changed.

"It does bother me because I don't like the UA," ASU quarterback Rudy Carpenter said.
"I don't like them painting their colors on our field, either."
