Allen Iverson Pays Funeral of Fan
Allen Iverson is paying for the funeral of a 22 year old fan who died three years after he was shot for refusing to give up his Iverson jersey. My question is is that enough? I am not asking for Iverson to give more money to the family; I just think he should do more to prevent things like this from happening. Iverson did mention that he would have given the young man's attackers "100 of them" if they wanted the jersey so bad. My problem is that from what I read Iverson did not go as far as to tell you people to just give up the jerseys if threaten. I think it is nice that Iverson will pay for the funeral, but I wish Iverson and other professional athletes would tell kids not to risk their lives for jerseys. There is a link below.

1. This sounds like a job for the NBA
Edited on Thu Nov-16-06 09:15 PM by Winebrat
It would be nice to see some of the millions it earns go towards an educational message that could be broadcast during NBA games instead of the league promotions they've run in the past. Something along the lines of discussing tolerance, sportsmanship, etc. It would be nice for Nike, Converse, Spalding and others to ante up some money or do similar types of messages as well. Some of their current messaging that make their products and pitchmen look larger than life can't help but contribute to this kind of destructive behavior.

2. "The shooting left Johnson paralyzed...and eventually on a ventilator.
Last week, the ventilator failed, and Johnson suffered irreparable brain damage. The family chose to take him off it."

The ventilator FAILED??? When that family gets through suing the hospital, they may be able to give Iverson TEN refunds!

4. Oh dear.
Imagine that poor man's last moments. Completely paralyzed, unable to breathe, unable to summon help. A tragic story has an even more tragic ending.

5. Iverson made his move the next move is on Stern
The franchise itself and Stern should follow up with this. It is not Iverson's fault this happened and he made an effort after the fact. Crazed fans make a choice to become obsessed with athletes, actors, and whoever else.
