Ohio receives first bowl bid since '68--Go Bobcats!
ATHENS, Ohio (AP) -- Ohio accepted a bid to play in the GMAC Bowl, its third bowl appearance and first in nearly four decades.

The Bobcats (9-3) will play the loser of Friday's Conference USA championship game between Houston and Southern Mississippi on Jan. 7 in Mobile, Ala.

Ohio has never won a bowl game, losing 49-42 to Richmond in the 1968 Tangerine Bowl and 15-14 to West Texas State in the 1962 Sun Bowl.

Three other Mid-American Conference teams accepted bowl invitations on Tuesday, including Central Michigan (Motor City), Western Michigan (International) and Northern Illinois (Poinsettia).

It's been a long, dry spell for my old alma mater. I guess I hope they win. Sort of.

1. Bongin' Bobcats
I had a cousin who had that bumpersticker.

Good for them. I saw them play in Pennington's last game at Marshall.

U of R (Richmond) played in a bowl game? WOW

BTW West Texas State is now UTEP

2. Hey, they deserved a bowl in the late '90s
Well, maybe their record sucked but I was winning tons of bets on them. They were running the option and many teams in their league had no clue how to stop it. One easy cover after another.

But I think Marshall stuffed them every year in that era. That's my recollection. I think I got burned once or twice until figuring it out.
