Boxing Champ Cintron Accepts UFC Challenge.
http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=3917&zoneid=13

Well, IMHO this will be a good fight if it actually happens. Cintron wrestled in college, and was apparently pretty good at it. If he has a good sprawl....watch out Sherk. A guy like this has a much better chance than Mayweather, because the key to beating Sherk is not letting him take you down. Also, I believe Cintron would have a big reach advantage, which helps a lot in stopping a takedown, because your opponent has to start the move from farther out (or get into your range first).

Also this is a very smart move by Cintron, because whether the fight happens or not, he gets free publicity.

1. Cintron
had a scholarship for wrestling, as I recall.

3. PS
Cintron is a boxing contender, as opposed to "champ."

5. It's a "title"
but he has never been the real champion. He's not in the very top contenders. But he is a good fighter, and if the match mentioned in the OP takes place, it would be interesting. He's a good fighter; athletic, punches very hard, and has good speed.

2. This is interesting. . .
Wrestling background.. and obviously he can punch.. if the fight happened he may be able to give it a good go.

And like you said publicity . . and since the article says he has a mandatory title defense coming up... publicity to draw attention to yourself (and possibly your fight.. since he said he had to do that first to get his fight's mention) . . . is always a good thing.

Now we just have to see if Dana "Fucking" White (A nick name another board I visit gave him for reasons I have no idea of .. probably cause he likes to curse maybe) . . will actually sign the match (Even though he challanged Mayweather) it'll be interesting. . .

he better just hope Shrek comes up on top.

6. If you've ever watched The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), you'd understand the nickname.

He drops the f-bomb all the time.

Because this guy has a wrestling background this isn't exactly what Dana was looking for....he wanted a famous boxer with no ground game. Mayweather's style and stance would be a huge weakness in MMA, but Cintron is almost custom made to be an MMA fighter: great boxer, good wrestler, fast and heavy hands - sounds like Chuck Liddell. I don't see how the UFC could back down now, though.

8. I watched up to TUF 3
I only watched four sparringly.. and I've yet to catch an episode of five (Although I do know someone left due to failing to make weight)

But I agree, this is definitely not White wanted. He wanted JUST a boxer so his MMAer could wipe the floor with him and White can say "SEE LOOK" . . but this could be trouble. . . trouble I be interested in seeing at least.

Speaking of MMA . . I heard on ESPN yesterday Randy Couture . .(I know I probably fed up his last name.. forgive me) is going to be on the cover of an S.I edition . . . if I'm not mistaken.. first MMAer to do so . pretty cool.

7. now that is really interesting
He has the ability to be very dangerous. He's got good hands, obviously, but with a wrestling background he may have the skills to keep it on the feet for the most part.
