Follow the money, bet on Illinois in the Rose Bowl
Michael Jordan's kid goes to school there.

There's no way that the overlords at Nike will let them lose.

1. Illinois is in the Rose Bowl?
I think the last time was like 1964 or something. I'm a graduate of that university, but I don't keep up with sports, except to note that they had to ditch Chief Illiniwek. Are they still called the Fighting Illini, or did they change it to Fighting Footwear and have a swoosh on their uniforms?

2. They're still the Fighting Illini
All my inlaws went to school there. And one of my all-time favorite movie lines is Tom Cruise's 'Looks like it's University of Illinois' in Risky Business.

Jordan's kid just started going to school there and their logo hasn't changed. Besides, I think the University of Oregon has dibs on being Nike U since that's where the company started.

3. The fighting weenies are gonna get eaten up.
Just my humble opinion...

4. Wasn't Jordan's kid a walk on?
I'm not being snarky when I say that, either. I just can't remember.

I am an alum and I still live in the area (never quite managed the escape) and I get sick unto death of the unending Illini stuff in the media. I honestly expect that one day I will turn on the radio or TV and they will say, "The world is scheduled to end at noon, and HOW ABOUT that Illini game last night?!!"

If money could buy a win at the Rose Bowl, trust me these local fans would have cleaned out the banks by now!

7. Something tells me Jordan's kid can afford tuition at Illinois
But I could be wrong

8. Ya THINK???

Nah, I think I remember hearing that the kid had wanted to go where his Dad had gone (was that NC State?) to college, but changed his mind and landed at U of I.

There was some minor hub-bub lately about Dad going to see a ballgame, and was he gonna be allowed to sit on the U of I bench (makes NO sense to me why people get all wrapped up on this stuff, but welcome to life at the U of I.) I figure MJ oughtta be able to see his kid play if he wants to, and he can sit where ever he damn well pleases--just like any OTHER parent.

You have to love the locals, ya really do...

9. Jordan went to UNC Chapel Hill and would be deeply offended if you confused it with NC State
He takes his school spirit seriously. Don't ask me why but that's the way he is.

I think you're describing life at any large University, which is a damn shame. Even though I started a thread about athletics I think it's vastly over-emphasized in society.

15. Illinois made crucial mistakes early,
and could not capitalize on USC mistakes. When they had a chance to make it 21-17 early in the 3rd but fumbled into the endzone, that was it.

16. Getting off the bus was their big mistake
Missouri v USC would have been a better game.
