The Clemens Press Conference
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 06:41 PM by erpowers
Did anyone watch the Clemens press conference? I saw and heard a good portion of the tape that Clemens was talking about before the press conference. In my opinion the tape did nothing to prove that McNamee was lying. It also seemed as if Clemens was trying to use the tape to have a pitty party. From what I heard on the tape Clemens and McNamee talk about how much Clemens helped McNamee. At one point, McNamee stated that he would not have what he had if it had not been for Clemens. Later, toward the end of the conversation McNamee began to repeatedly ask Clemens what did he (Clemens) want McNamee to do. Clemens never responded to McNamee's question (what do you want me to do) by answering tell the truth. So what did other think about the tape and the press conference?

1. It almost seemed like it was staged.
No gotchas. Just trying to bring out sympathy for both McNamee and Clemens.

That could be one conclusion. The other is that McNamee had a lawyer present and knew that it was being recorded. So he was not going to allow himself to be incriminated and the conversation just went round and round.

I am at home sick and also saw some stories today that said that Roger had guilty body language last night. He even mentioned that during today's press conference asking if would be OK to drink some water.

Whatever, I think Clemens sounded more convincing than last night.

2. Several things
He never asked McNamee to declare that he had lied. As pointed out by some slimey ass ESPN reporter Olney (seriously have you nothing else to do) Clemens had to be careful with respect to witness tampering should anything come up in the future.

The fact that neither one of them ever said anything declarative is telling that they had lawyers on hand.

I have to say that hearing this it appears that McNamee may ( I said MAY) be asking or wanting money from Roger. His child is sick and Clemmens mentioned this several times. McNamee stated that he "had nothing". Bad stuff but Clemmens never made nor asked for a conclusion.
