1. In the past week I've seen a foul ball called a homerun and a runner |
|
called safe at home when he was out. Both calls had major impacts on the game. It is high time that we had video review in baseball.

2. I think that would be a great idea! |

Give each team two or three challenges a game, kind of like football.

3. I wouldn't mind it being used for calls that involve |
|
runs scoring --- such as plays at home plate and HR's.
I hate those stadiums where you have to hit the ball over the yellow line. You essentially need to look at the replay anyway to judge.
Some of the weeknight games I attend already run 3-plus hours.
The thought of extending them further is :scared:

Swear to God - half of them are blind!
No instant replay reviews! That's for the stupid games.

5. Like the one that cost the Phillies the game yesterday?? |
|
The umpire said it was a homer, the videotape said otherwise.
However, I think bad calls even out over a 162 game season. I have no doubt that some hoser call sometime this year will benefit the Phillies.

6. No inclination is to say "No", but they'll do it any way |
|
It sounds like a good excuse for a commercial break, and we know who's paying baseball's bills nowadays.

7. I agree that bad calls tend to even out over the season |
|
That being said, I wouldn't mind seeing video review of the "homerun above the yellow line" call. It's hard to judge those from the infield.
For balls and strikes and judgment calls on the field, nope.

if it is implemented, I'd hope it'd be only for fair/foul calls in the outfield, disputed homers and maybe outfield traps — calls that umpires often aren't close enough to accurately make, especially during the regular season. I'm absolutely, adamantly against it for ball/strike and safe/out calls, hit by pitch, balks, interference, etc.
I also think the number of appeals should be limited and/or there should be some sort of penalty for an appeal that isn't upheld, but one that wouldn't affect scoring — like losing a trip to the mound or something.

9. They can really only do it in a "dead ball" situation... |
|
The "yellow line" home run or a fair/foul situation. Anything reviewed in a "live action" situation affects the play. For example, someone hits a line drive down the first base line and the ball rattles around in the corner. The umpire calls it foul, and the runners and fielders stop running. Then the review shows it was fair. Where do you put the runners? I'm not in favor of reviewing most things, but I would like to see the home runs reviewed. I don't mind keeping things in the infield (safe, out, balls and strikes) under the umpire's control. I think you'd probably have to do that for trapped balls in the OF as well.

After 120 some years of umpires making the calls without replay, why start now? They have a high enough accuracy rating so the integrity of the game is not affected.

12. Should have instant review similar to football |
|
I've been saying for years that baseball should have an instant review rule similar to football. The number of terrible calls seems to be increasing each year. It works reasonably well in football. Better to get the call correct. Also, how can one umpire have a "low strike zone" and another a "high strike zone". The strike zone is spelled out in the rule book, period.

13. Never ever should instand replay be used |
|
Bad calls add to the fun and discussion of the game. If we had instant replay, Jeremy Meyer helping Derek Jeter get a home run in 1996 never would have happened, and the Yankees might have lost that year.
