Favre leaves Lambeau, maybe Packers
Source: Associated Press

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP)—The bond between Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers appears to be broken beyond repair.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Tuesday evening that after approximately six hours of what he called “brutally honest” conversations with Favre over the past two days, the three-time MVP just isn’t in the right mind-set to be part of the team.

Even with the chance to win his starting job back potentially on the table, McCarthy said Favre couldn’t seem to get past emotional wounds that were opened as tensions mounted in recent weeks.

“The football team’s moving forward,” McCarthy said. “The train has left the station, whatever analogy you want. He needs to jump on the train and let’s go. Or, if we can’t get past things that have happened, I have to keep the train moving.” . . .

What soap opera. That should do it.

Favre to Tampa Bay? That's my guess.

1. What's wrong with retiring?
Oh, I guess that I would go to Tampa Bay maybe.

5. And the inevitable anti-sports snob weighs in.
Why don't you take your f'ing self-inflated superiority elsewhere?

Bring it any time on any topic. But you don't like sports, you don't have to post here.

18. How, exactly, is this related to politics?
Please, re-read the LBN rules.

21. I did. Where does it say LBN is limited to "politics?"
I think this is news, interesting, and meets the criteria. Per your recommendation, I did go back over the rules.

This fits. Many others do, too, but the fact that it's over for Favre with Green Bay, and the AP reported that within the hour of my posting, fits the rules pretty clearly, I think.

Please point out, in the rules, where LBN is limited to politics.

6. Yeah, but I can't see the Packers accommodating him in-division.
They will work something out, but I doubt with the Vikes.

What Brett "wants" is low on the Packers' priority list right now.

He had said before that he didn't want to go there because it was to hot. But I am sure he can deal with the heat.

10. I've seen a couple of sports sights that have said he'd now consider the NFC South
He still lives in MS, so maybe it's proximity to his home makes it acceptable.

11. I think he is considering it because
the Packers won't let him go to any NFC north team. I think he would be a good fit in Tampa. They have a good team in place they just need a QB.

14. Garcia did well last year for the Bucs
team made playoffs, Garcia made probowl. However, he had an entire off-season to learn Gruden's offense, the playbook is about as thick as War and Peace. i'm sure Favre cannot learn the offense in a couple weeks. This TB fan says no to Favre, just give us a couple more recievers and a DLine stud and Bucs will be very good.

17. Isn't Garcia having a lot of health issues right now?
I thought I read somewhere that he was. Personally I would like to see Carolina win the division. But they are not getting off to a very good start in training camp. Heck before it is over with half the team is going to be on a two game suspension.

He was looking good in camp... will sit out first preseason game. He'll be fine in a week or two. Luke McCown will start, Miami is probably starting his brother.

27. I agree with you on Farve.
Tampa doesn't need him. This is just another example of Gruden's over-inflated ego. A pro-bowl QB isn't good enough to run his offense. In his mind only a hall of fame QB will do for his hall of fame offense.:eyes:

15. Brett will come back to haunt the pack. Maybe even twice a season
Packers officials have believed throughout the past month that Favre’s preference is to play for the Minnesota Vikings, but Favre could reconsider a trade to Tampa Bay—or elsewhere—if Green Bay holds firm in its commitment not to trade him to a division rival.

It will be fun to watch him in Lambeau wearing Viking purple

he would be a non-factor for the Packers there (flawed AFC team, not on schedule, brutal press,) but I'm not sure the coach could deal with him.

19. Packers crapped on Vince Lombardi, so he left. Now they do it to Favre.
Brett Favre dragged the Packers into the winning column many times. This is no way to treat him! I hope he plays for the Vikings or Bears.

28. He retired!
He cried his little eyes out, basked in the fans' adulation, and acknowledged the tributes from around the country. HE said it was time, the Packers did not force him out. So the team moved on with a new quarterback. Now Brett misses the spotlight and wants to come back so the new guy just gets shoved aside because the retired guy wants to come back?

I was hired to replace someone who retired. I would have had a major problem if the guy decided to unretire and take his job back and it would have thrown my workplace into chaos. This is no different, it's just a bigger stage.

Grow up, Brett. Actions have consequences.

30. How did the Packers "crap" on Vince Lombardi?
When Lombardi signed on in 1959, he demanded, and got, total control. He was coach and GM through the 1968 Super Bowl, and then stepped down as coach, named his defensive coordinator, Phil Bengston, as coach, but stayed on as GM. Nobody pushed him out. He had just won three consecutive NFL championships, and the first two Super Bowls. He was God in Green Bay.

After a year he found that he missed coaching, but didn't want to fire Bengston. When Edward Bennett Williams offered him the coaching job in Washington, AND a piece of the team (something not really available with the publicly owned Packers), he took it and moved back East.

31. ...and promptly hit the wall in the postseason
Too many times I screamed in disbelief as he put one up for the opposing defense to get. Like last year in the NFC championship. I'd rather not sit through any more of those.

He shouldn't have retired in the first place. But once he did, he should have stayed there. :(

26. And sadly for the Bears
I don't think anyone needed SI to tell them that. The Bears have a good solid team with a single gaping hole under center, and have for some time. It's a little frustrating for me that they haven't figured out how to address this problem over the last few years, and I'm not even a particular fan. I can only imagine how bad it is for true Bears fans. I was in Chicago last weekend and heard 3 different people suggest (after hearing the Favre retirement "deal") that the Bears should offer Grossman $20 million to retire and it would be the best money they ever spent on him.

29. I remember when Joe Montana left to play for Kansas City.
And when Jerry Rice left to play for Oakland.

It was very, very uncomfortable -- even painful to watch for me.

So I can empathize what Packer fans are going to be experiencing if Farve plays wearing a different uniform this season, after bringing so much joy to Green Bay. It won't be fun. Believe me.
