Dolphins find starting QB: Pennington
<snip>

"The Dolphins' quarterback competition came to an abrupt conclusion late Friday night, and none of the three candidates currently in training camp will win the starting job.

Instead, Miami has agreed to a two-year deal with former Jets quarterback Chad Pennington, an agreement that will bring the former AFC East rival into town as the unspoken starter, two sources said.

Pennington can earn up to $11.5 million over the course of the contract. His arrival also will mean the end in Miami for either Josh McCown or John Beck, two quarterbacks who have been unable to impress the coaching staff during training camp."

2. Who goes, Beck or McCown?
Probably McCown, unless Miami can get a decent draft pick for Beck, which is unlikely.

Great theater on the Dolphin websites, major split on whether to sign Pennington or not. It looked like a political poll, roughly 50/40/10 in favor/against/undecided.

6. get used to 5-yard dumps over the middle, Dolphin fans
anything over 15 yards and you might as well put a parachute on the ball.

9. I don't care---as long as there's no INT
and it's a completion.

Trust me, it will be a major upgrade to what we've had.

15. It's a combination of both.

The Jets line sucked, but Chad is also a very over hyped and overrated QB as well. Miami's line is good enough to buy him time for a ton of 5-10yd dump offs, but shit, the Pats do a ton of that as well, so it may help. The Pats just have guys who can run with the ball after they catch it...guys like Welker for instance. :P

Favre will throw a lot of picks this year, but he always has. Whenever the team sucks he tries to do too much and forces shit. A bad Favre is better then Pennington, but he's not going to save the Jets by any stretch. They'll be lucky not to finish last in the division this year.

16. Chad Pennington named Dolphins' starting QB
<snip>

"The Dolphins worst kept secret has finally been divulged.

Chad Pennington was named the Dolphins starting quarterback for the regular-season on Monday, holding off rookie Chad Henne in the two weeks he has spent as a Dolphin.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to lead this team. We've worked extremely hard over the last two weeks and I'm proud to be a Miami Dolphin," said Pennington, whose first regular-season game will be against his former team, the New York Jets, a Dolphins AFC East rival.

Pennington has given the Dolphins offense a big boost since his arrival from New York, which cut him loose when Brett Favre was acquired in a trade from Green Bay.

He led the Dolphins to scores on two of his three drives in the 19-14 exhibition win over Jacksonville, completing 5-of-6 passes for 55 yards, and scrambling for 18 yards on two runs.

Pennington threw for 94 yards on 11 for 15 passing, including a 17-yard touchdown pass to tight end Anthony Fasano in Saturday's 24-0 rout of Kansas City."

20. Dolphins are much improved in the trenches
Some barrel chested explosive athletes for a change, youngsters named Long, Langford, Merling. Looks like it was a heck of a draft, and if Henne pans out it will be a bonanza.

The older player who really makes a difference is Ferguson at NT.

It's the same thing with the Canes; I'll try to retain reasonable expectations this year but the needle is finally up in terms of personnel acquisition, wildly up.

...always seemed like a nice guy who had a lot of tough breaks...besides, it would make the Jets look like idiots for taking what's-his-name.

23. Dolphins trade Josh McCown to Carolina
Not worth pursuing a link. Trust me, I saw it somewhere. Conditional trade, probably a 7th rounder.

This bails out John Beck in the #3 slot, unless Miami picks up a waiver guy. The Dolphins have first dibs on waived players and are expected to use that for 3-4 guys after cuts to 53 are made. I think it's first crack on players with less than 4 years of experience. I can't keep track of all the specifics anymore, nor the salary crap.
