4. I used to have a pair of underwear he autographed.
Back in about 1982 when he was doing those underwear ads he appeared at a department store autographing underwear for a couple of hours. I just bought a pair of them right there and he signed them. Don't have that any more though.

speaking as a life-long Cleveland Browns fan, as much as I love him as an analyst, and he may be the best, I most assuredly did NOT (:grr:) love him as a fucking linebacker for the fucking Denver Broncos. :banghead:

Not something I'd expect from a former Raiders lineman.

Joe Morgan is fantastic as well.

They had a hell of a D back then. Gradishar was pretty damn good, too.

Some great old NFL Films stuff here. Go to "Find" and type in something like Denver Crush. They picked the Orange Crush D as the number 9 all time LB corp.

35. yeah, Gradishar was great
he belongs in the Hall of Fame, like Larry Zimmer said in the video at that link. It's pretty silly that the Broncos, with the success they've had over the years, only had one player in the Hall of Fame until Gary Zimmerman got in this year. Gradishar should be there.

17. Ole' Dizz and The Wabash Cannonball
Dizzy and Pee Wee on a Saturday afternoon in 1961.

"From the great Atlantic Ocean to the wide Pacific shore
From the green ol' Smoky Mountains to the south lands by the shore
She's mighty tall and handsome and she's known quite well by all
She's the regular combination of the Wabash Cannonball

Listen to the jingle, the rumble and the roar
As she glides along the woodland through the hills and by the shore
Hear the mighty rush of the engine, hear the lonesome hobos call
You're traveling through the jungles on the Wabash Cannonball

Our eastern states are dandy, so the people always say
From New York to St Louis with Chicago by the way
From the hills of Minnesota where the rippling waters fall
No changes can be taken on the Wabash Cannonball

Now here's to Daddy Claxton, may his name forever stand
And always be remembered through the courts throughout the land
His earthly race is over, now the curtains round him fall
We'll carry him home to victory on the Wabash Cannonball"

Also a decent analyst.

About the only good thing to come out of eaglet territory is Ron Jaworsky who is a really good analyst on ESPN (much better than when he was QB there)

36. Johnny Miller
Edited on Sat Aug-16-08 02:23 AM by Awsi Dooger
I thought he would be the first guy mentioned. Easily the most distinct golf analyst ever. Most controversial also.

I disagree with joeybee. I like John McEnroe. He's actually better on women's matches than men's, for some reason. It's ridiculous when they keep him off the women's matches. Like Miller, he understands the mental aspect of the sport, the choke factor.

The best sports commentator on the planet is Cynthia Potter on diving. Obscure sport but she recognizes subtleties unlike anyone else. Instantly. She competed in three Olympiads including a bronze medal.

By far the funniest moment of the Olympics so far was the women's synchronized diving. The Chinese pair was winning the gold medal handily. Competing just after them was a Canadian pair trying for the bronze. One of the Canadians was massive, by diving standards. Quebec could fit in her thighs. Potter was doing her best not to blatantly say the Canadian was too damn fat. She would use words like wisp to describe the Chinese entering the water, then delicately try to compare the entry of the Canadian, who was practically emptying the pool.

Certainly more interesting to listen to the Ken Venturi was. Never liked him for some reason. But Miller is fun to listen to, though I can't recall anything too controversial off the top of my head. I'm sure there's something though. :)
