So our local U of Michigan club gets an invite today from a sports bar |
|
to come watch their games there.
I'm quite inclined to say NO, because they said: Come watch the University of Michigan TROJANS.
Hey, I know it'a a down year, but it's not as bad as all that!
Of course, a few years ago, Hooter's called us to try and get us to watch the games there. On the message, they called themselves "a nationally-known sports bar chain". Luckily we had caller ID.....

1. If they'll give you a good enough deal on food and drinks, |
|
I'd play along. This week is the big match up between the Michigan Trojans vs. the Michigan State Boll Weevils.

I wonder if they've contacted the Ohio State Blue Devils?

3. My daughter works at a sports bar in Denver and fan and alumni clubs |
|
are definitely big business for them!
My other two daughters were in Brussels during the Texas-OU game and called around to find a bar that was showing the game. They found one near their hotel and showed up to find about six other Longhorn fans who were jubilant to be able to watch the game with other fans.
We're going to be in Niagara Falls, ON, this weekend and I'm hoping to find a place to watch the Texas-Oklahoma State game. It's on ABC but I think it's just regional coverage. I've found a few places to call. It would be cool to find other Longhorn fans there.

4. We've been going to the same place for years |
|
They've opened up early for us, subscribed to particular sports packages just to get our games, their servers wear Michigan shirts - why people in our club - generally newcomers - always seem so determined to find somewhere else is beyond me. Once someone wanted us to go to Fox Sports Grill. Aside from the obvious - IT'S FOX - they show so many games that you can't hear the announcers. Our place has the announcers on.

5. That's how to cater to a fan club! |
|
My daughter's bar is a Kansas fan locale and that's how they're treated, too, with Kansas school colors, the game on the biggest screens with audio, etc. I think the owner may be a Kansas alum. But the staff don't wear the colors. My daughter has worn her Longhorn T-shirt to work before and the fans were very polite. (I don't think she wore it when the two teams were playing each other! ;))
