High School Girl's Basketball Team Wins By Margin of 100-0
It was reported last week that a Dallas high school, Covenant, defeated another girls basketball team, Dallas Academy, by a score of 100-0. Last week it was also reported that Dallas Academy was a school that has only 20 girls at the school and only 8 girls on its basketball team. It addition, Dallas Academy specialized in kids with developmental challenges and had not won a game in four years. Today it was reported that the coach of Covenant refused to apologize for the win and was fired.

I know a number of people may say that I am wrong, but I support the coach of Covenant. I do not think it was that coach's fault that the coach of Dallas Academy did not coach his girls well enough to win a game or score points in the game. In addition, if people want to complain that the score should not have been that high because the players of Dallas Academy had developmental challenges I would say if the girls could not play well enough to compete with other girls they should not have been scheduled to play against those girls. I think the coach of Dallas Academy is the coach that should have been fired. I would say it is ridiculous that his girls could not even score 2 points in the whole game. It seems to me that if he had coached his team better they would have scored more points. They may have also been able to keep the other school from scoring so many points.

1. Should he have been fired?
It was a Private Christian School. What would Jesus Do? I think it was rather heartless. His team could have gone through the motions and practiced their plays and left with a big win without the scoring jamboree.

2. I'm sure Belichek has sent his congrats to the coach of Covenant.
Just wanted to make sure it was out of reach of the other team.

4. Hey, in the pros, fuck 'em if they can't stop the opponent.
It's not one team's job to make the other team look good. If a team feels embarrassed to get blown out then that's their problem for not being good enough. Be a pro and suck it up.

This story here is a bit different. In college and the pros go ahead and run up the score, I don't care. But at this level there's always such a difference in ability, not just from team to team, but from person to person, that dominating one team like this is tacky at best. In this case it's even worse considering the circumstances of the team that was beat.

As for Belichik, I hope he always runs up the score. Fuck the other team's feelings. And if a team can do it to the Pats then more power to them. :)

6. Between coaches like this and many parents, it's a wonder anyone get's involved in youth sports.
The parents are what drove me out of coaching youth hockey. Most of them think their kid, who can't even tie his own skates, is the next Bobby Orr. And woe be to you if you don't play him as if we were Bobby Orr.

There's a lot of coaches like this fuckface, too. In youth hockey there are tight rules about ice time for all kids (at least here in New England), but a lot of coaches cheated and played their best players anyways, making the other kids sit on the bench. I did the right thing and played all the kids...and got bitched at relentlessly from the parents of the better skilled players. Color me revolutionary, but I don't think winning is everything for a bunch of 10 year old kids.

Don't get me wrong, there are a ton of good people involved, too. But the bad coaches and the shitty parents really stand out, and they ruined the fun for me. I loved teaching the kids, especially the goalies. :)

8. I find myself hoping that Covenant blows a big lead in an important game...
because they didn't know how to run the "four corners" offense.

Based on my admittedly limited knowledge of high school sports in Texas, the state assigns teams to leagues based on geography and enrollment. They may not have had any choice but to play each other.

9. "Dallas Academy specialized in kids with developmental challenges"
First off, its fucking high school girls basketball, this guy should be ashamed of himself.
Second, he ran up the score against a team with from a school that only has 20 developmentally challenged girls in the whole school.

What kind of lesson is this teaching his players? That it is okay to beat up on the weak and defenseless in order to make yourself feel tough just because you can? Kind of like the US beating up on Grenada or Panama....oh...

As I understand it, at the same time as this was going on, Dallas Acadamy boys BEAT Covenant. I'm still looking for a link.

12. It was what one would expect from Free Republic
This tool was coaching like he would get free Chalupas from Taco Bell if he hung 100 on somebody.

Some folks can't comprehend that a win by 100 still doesn't count anymore than a win by 1.

15. I understand Covenant was putting on a full court press
and firing up 3 pointers right up until they reached 100...man, that just doesn't seem right.
