Venezuela eliminates USA in world baseball classic

Venezuela 10, USA 6

That will teach the Major Leagues to call it the "World Series."

4. Yeah. Tonights game was just for seeding.
Both teams are in the semifinals.

Korea is already in from the other pool and will play the winner of Japan/Cuba for seeding.

The Japan/Cuba loser is eliminated.

5. I knew someone was going to try this bullshit line.
The very best players in the world play in the major leagues. That's why the Major League championship is called the World Series. Do you honestly think that over a 162 game schedule, featuring the very best players, that the U.S. would not absolutely kill every other country's all-star team? Please.

The Kansas City Royals would crush the best team from the Japanese, Korean, Venezuelan or whatever league over a 162 game span.

Anything can happen in a single elimination tournament. One bad outing from a pitcher can mean everything.

11. Maybe
but in 2008, there were 998 US born players in MLB..while much smaller countries like the Dominican Republic had 137 and Venezuela had 89...meaning that the DR and Venezuela had more per capita major league level talent than the US.

7. Ignorant post about Baseball
The American team was comprised of 2nd and 3 stringers filling in for injured major leaguers.

In a World Series game, the best of the best are playing as a team---not a team thrown together on the fly---but a team that played 160 games together for a season.

13. Yeah
You've really got to be on the same page to play baseball together. The timing of the passes is so critical.

Seriously, though, I guess you do have to be used to your teammates voices, so you can tell which one is yelling "I got it!"

9. Does anybody really care who wins the WBC?
It's just all about hoping nobody from your favorite MLB team gets injured.

14. NO - it's a joke.
Baseball weather is not even here yet. The players are not in top shape. Teams are worried about injuries. It's bullshit.

12. It certainly will teach MLB a lesson
Who the hell do they think they are calling it the "World Series" when there are fine players in Venezuela who aren't even playing in MLB? Yep, 6 of Venezuela's 28 players don't play in the US... the other 22 do.

15. Um...the Majors still have the best baseball players in the world
The majority of the players on the Venezuelan squad are Major Leaguers. As are the majority of players on the teams left standing. Try and do some research before doing any "ripping" on MLB.
