Decision not to re-enter league signals end (Ricky Williams)
Edited on Thu Dec-02-04 09:47 PM by flying_blind
Ricky Williams' career as a football player may be over after he decided not to accept a proposal to re-enter the NFL and serve a four-game suspension for violations of the drug policy, according to his attorney, David Cornwell.
...
Williams met with Cornwell Wednesday night and Cornwell couldn't talk him into seeking reinstatement. More than a week ago, Cornwell worked out a proposal that would have allowed Williams to return this week and be suspended for the final four games of the season.

"Ricky is going to stay on the retired list and I have to conclude that his career is over," Cornwell said.

Williams still owes the Dolphins $8 million for not fulfilling his contract with the team. At the moment, he is studying holistic medicine at a college near Sacramento, Calif.

I Love that he is such a hippy and have felt so since his UT days

and

YET

I HATE that the institution of corporate football values profits so much above character that they would even Dare to make such an offer to this guy.

WHY

...in Sport of all things,

have we verily Condoned the acceptance of

doping

and cheating

and just generally being a DICKHEAD

in the name of profit?

I say Ricky is great and gwad bless him for making the cash to buy his freedom to be who he wants to be.

BUT

I say

GAWDDAMN
the big bidness illusion of character
of sport that allows such stuff to go on
after the very fist glimmer of it occurs

These are our babies watching this play out

apolitical sport is the last bastion of good character

and we sell it...

WHY???

What to do???

1. I'm not quite sure what point you're making
but I think it's great that Ricky would rather pursue ayurvedics than a career in professional football, which is willing to ban him because he chooses to smoke a little weed. I mean really. When you have a league full of players who are taking steroids (and some who are doing coke), but manage to work around the machinery to beat the test, there is something refreshing about Ricky's honesty concerning a fairly benign "drug."

What was most sickening to me was Dan Patrick on ESPN today, who could not resist chuckling to Andrea Kramer about Ricky's decision. At least Andrea tried to remain professional about this, but Patrick thought it was the craziest thing he'd ever heard of. Of course it was! Why? Because Patrick will do anything to stay in front of a camera sniffing jock straps and pontificating about statistics. Hey Dan...how's that hair color working for you? Is that more silly than a little weed? How about that botox in your forehead? Does that make you feel complete?

And don't get me started on the rest of his compatriots in the business, most of whom have to wear loafers because they can't tie their shoes. Those gluttons go out and get half hard ons at titty bars and think they are in a great position to judge Ricky Williams. I don't think they speak from a position of authority.
