I hated Philly's draft, if getting a receiver here means they're not going to go after Boldin, then I'd give their draft an F minus.
The Browns trade down was a good one, and getting Mack might turn out well, but I think they could've gotten better overall value if they went for Harvin then picked up one of the tackles or guards left in the second round.
I'd be happy if I were a Skins fan that my team did not try to force a trade in order to get Sanchez.

Pick Analysis: The 49ers surprisingly land the draft's biggest playmaker in Crabtree. The two-time Biletnikoff Award winner is a natural pass catcher with outstanding ball skills and awareness. Crabtree gives the team its best receiving threat since Terrell Owens, and he's poised to become an instant star in the NFC West.http://www.nfl.com/draft/2009/profiles/michael-crabtree?id=71269How can you not like that?

5. The Steelers needed a Center and Tackle. Got neither. |
|
The No. 1 Defense drafts a defender in Round One.
I say the Steelers draft is below average. Sucky even.

Ziggy Stardust wasn't someone I looked for in first, but what I've read he's pretty good. Plus our D-line's getting up in age. No starter is under 30 and they really don't have any back ups who are in the mid 20's.
The guard, Urbik, is supposed to be a monster. He moves in right away.
The wideout, Wallace will take over for Santonio on returns. As much as I like him in the return game, he's 1-A on the receiver chart, don't want to see him go down on a return.
T-Rex (aka A.Q. Shipley) may just remind some people of Mike Webster. (side note, Shipley and Websters son I believe were teammates at Moon HS). But, then again, his short arms may keep him from being a NFL player. It won't be from a lack of skill and intelligence. We'll see.
All in all, not too terribly upset.

he has a big tendency of holding the ball too long looking to make a play.

20. More than I am with Kemo and Stapleton |
|
If Urbik works out and gets into the starting lineup then the O-line looks like this,
Starks,Kemo,Hartwig,Urbik,Colon.
That maybe the best we can do given the cap. We may have look at a Denver style blocking scheme and the 3 step drop.

9. The Patriots by a mile. |
|
They got three potential future starters with their first 3 picks and managed to deal away 2 of their 3rd round picks to get a couple of twos next year. Just an unbelievably deep team.

11. Brandon Tate from UNC is a PLAYER |
|
he was their whole offense this year.
Great with the ball no matter how you get it to him. Should be a great combo with Moss and the other guy (forgot his name). Returns kicks WELL too.

14. I was excited by that pick. |
|
With BC being in the ACC we see have an ACC game of the week every Saturday, so I watched UNC 4 or 5 times last year, and Tate stuck out every game.
I like their early picks as well. The Pats seem to always do good on draft day, no doubt about it.

10. Those that really know this game feel that after draft grades are an excercise in futility |

My own feeling is that this will even be worse this season, as much of the first round has higher than normal bust potential.

We can predict Matt Stafford will fail Detroit, since that franchise is cursed.
We'll see it for ourselves as we suffer through another thanksgiving watching the Lions.

|
Edited on Mon Apr-27-09 12:27 AM by hughee99
Their QB's combined for 52 sacks last year, and they only rushed for 1300 yards. They need to put some serious work into their O-Line or Stafford is screwed. A young QB is going to get some sacks anyway for holding the ball too long, but if the offense can't give him some time, he'll be punch-drunk by November.

The stud receiver fell into their lap because Davis intervened, and their second pick looks awfully impressive.
I think it's pretty clear that the Niners had a very good weekend. GAC

But it will be for naught if tackles Marvel and Staley can't stay healthy. I think they needed bigger guards too -- Gore hasn't been quite the same without Larry Allen blocking for him.
