1. As a lifelong Giants fan, I'm glad they won, especially from the Dodgers |
|
As a realist with an outlook rooted in equanimity, I still don't expect anything of them this year.
Are you old enough to know the meaning of the term June swoon? Unfortunately, it's a Giants tradition.
BTW, since MrPerson is no longer with us, what is the point of ragging on the Pirates?

The Pirates are just a bad team drawing poor attendance. There's nothing to rag on. Obviously, their own fans don't pay attention to them.
You know, Cowboy, like we Giants fans did with our team during what I recall fondly as the Brad Wellman era. Apart from Jack Clark and Darrell Evans, just a bunch of marginal to mediocre players, starting pitchers who weren't consistent and relief pitchers with whom no lead was safe. Maybe there were a couple freak good years, one under Joe Altabelli and one under Frank Robinson, but finally culminating in a 100-loss season. Then they brought in Al Rosen and Roger Craig, who showed them how to win.

3. Giants are my culture and longest truest love |
|
I went to at least one Giant game from 1959 to 2003 and a playoff game in 1962.
My grandfather was a failed SF Seals prospect sent literally to the bush of Humboldt 100 years ago where he dropped baseball, became a mule team skinner, operated a frontier store, and then owned and operated a fishing/hunting resort on the Klamath from 1921 to the lates 1950s.
My Dad helped me write his obit in 1995 and we included Carl Hubbell and Mel Ott -- his heros --, my Mom. an only child, and my grandmother wife of the failed ballplayer turned outdoorsman, were total fanatics. We had a home in Danville in the 60s and there were fan buses from San Ramon HS and also cub/boy scout troop trips to games. Later I spent 3 stints at Cal and was a Giant fan hardcore then as now and prior. Even when I worked in OR for close to 10 years, I would make some Giants games -- often with my elderly Dad. I have been hiding in the mountains away from modern brainwashed consumer society since 2003. So no games except what DirectTV does not block. Today was a great game.
