For someone who has suffered with Roger at every grand slam final,(on TV) cried with him at every defeat laughed with him at every win--it was such a relief to watch him win this greatly coveted championship!
I think he would have beaten Rafa too--just like he did in Madrid--the place where Rafa was expected to win and by all rights would have won--if Roger hadn't gotten his head together by then.
The road was tough, but the tough ultimately survive and the matches leading up to this point were crucial.
I hope Rafa gets well soon and that he can rekindle his rivalry with Rog--as those matches are the best to watch---but today---every time I remember that Roger won I smile.
