Mets beat Philly in game one
What a squeaker!!!!!

I was nervous when Rollins got on base in the ninth.

Team still needs work but I gotta think they are gonna roll when Reyes comes back. Castillo is just a terrible lead off man. I hope the Mets find a way to dump him and play Cora at 2nd. I would like to say that Castillo went 0-5 leading off but, this is afterall, Castillo.

Typical Mets though. Just when you think they are completely dead and the schedule insurmountable with all these injuries they find a way to tease you. Got the first of a really tough six game set out of the way.

1. You needed this one with Santana pitching, as you'll lose the next two.
The Mets almost choked again tonight, after jumping ahead 3-0.

I'm sure the Phillies' shiny world series rings glistened in the night as they walked to the bus.

2. As I am also sure it too you a long time to come up with that post
Mets are 4-1 against Philly thus far this season.

You were declaring them dead in the game tonight.

Now you have to move the goal posts and declare them dad in the next two. Ok. Anything just so you can look remotley correct. Not that you will admit you were wrong on your call tonight.

You might want to have a look at this;

Mike Pelfrey

May 7 PHI W 7-5

May 1 @ PHI W 7-4

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7807;_ylt=AnGs.mJUm2MfYppzB_fSW1sh0bYF

Pelfrey is 2-0 against Philly this season. He's going against Hamels tomorrow night. I think the Mets have a fair shot in this series.

4. I think it funny that that guy refuses to acknowledge
that in 07 and 08 this is a game the Mets clearly would have lost. With the improved pen they pulled this one out.

Philly without Lidge is in the same position the Mets were in in the years they choked. Your Pen starts going down like and you lose your closer it's tough to win games.

This was a game we would have lost last season and the year before. Easily a game we would be looking back on later in the year. Cboy, having nothing to root for, obviously has to jump on the Philly bandwagon. That's just sad.

5. Ironic that a "so-called" REAL SPORTS FAN is jumping on to another teams
bandwagon.

I would call that Pathetic, but I'm sure they know what that word means just like they know this word....

LOSERS!

6. I'm not on the Philly bandwagon. I'm just recognizing them as a better
team than the Mets.

7. Nope, you're fully on the Philly bandwagon
I think anyone reading this thread and a few others can obviously see that.

You can't even bring yourself to acknowledge that it was, in fact, Philly that choked in this game. They had a 4-3 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth and blew it. They needed a blown call on Tatis at the plate, who was clearly safe, to keep it within two heading into the seventh.

You also, in your quest to establish Philly as the better team than the Mets right now, the Phillies team ERA which is the second highest in NL.

The Mets ERA is the 4th best in the NL.

The Mets are top three in the NL in Batting AVG at .283

The Phillies team batting AVG is third to last in the NL at .250

The Mets in OBP, again, better than the Phillies, at .368 which leads the NL.

The Phillies sit tenth, just a little below average, in the NL at .339.

One category right now where Philly leads the Mets is in slugging percentage where they are 2nd in the NL at .450. The Mets are fourth in the NL at .435.

The Mets are doing all this with key players missing from their lineup. They have been doing this all season long. The Mets even lead the NL in Stolen Bases, On Base Percentage, and triples with Reyes out of the lineup. They are even ahead of the Phillies in total runs scored despite having hit 13 fewer home runs AND JOSE REYES OUT OF THE LINEUP!!!!!

There is something that real baseball fans know about that you clearly don't. It's called ALLOWING THE SCHEDULE TO PLAY OUT!!!!!!

Oh, and you might want to ask MrSlayer how he feels right now with Lidge on the DL. I'll bet you he'll you it's simialar to how we felt with Wagner going down for the season in mid August (The major event last season that led to the Mets choking).

I think you need to sit down. You're clearly sucking ass to the Phillies (also declaring the Mets dead in this series) and not looking good while doing it. Mainly cause you don't have much to talk about with your Giants.

9. Nice that you conveniently cherry picked stats to make your team
look better. You forgot one important one: Wins and Losses.

10. I thought I mentioned that
More or less I think you have to allow the schedule to play itself out. The Mets right now have a really brutal stretch of games ahead of em.

Oddly though, I think Philly is lookin a lot like we did these last two seasons. I think much of it for them due to a World Series hangover. But tonights game, putting myself in Phillie's shoes, that looked a lot like us these last few years. In 07 we had so many leads against you guys just squandered by our pen.

These last two seasons we usually lose games like tonights. We look back at all the blown saves and just vomit. I think the Mets had about 22 or so last year. We had to run closer by committe after Wagner went down.

I look at a lot of games we've played and point to a few where the outcome would have been different with a healthy Reyes or Beltran. Honestly I think the Mets play .500 ball till some guys get back they will make the post season.

You're gonna find that it's not as easy to throw someone in that closers role as you think it is.

8. Not quite. Now that Romero's back we can put him in for the 8th inning
and use Madson to close. Perhaps he'll struggle, but my guess is he'll be ok. If Lidge is anything like Brett Myers, spending some time off the field trying to get back into the groove will work wonders for him.

11. Lidge is not as easy to replace as you might think
That guy has some nasty stuff. Probably one of the top closers in the game.

The guys you replace him with will probably be able to close more than they blow em but they are gonna blow quite a few. It takes time to develop that mentality and guys that aren't use to it either get it or break down over time.

Should be interesting but like I said, you guys in the Pen look a lot like we did these last few seasons.

I ain't cocky bout tomorrows game either. I think it's gonna be another nail biter. Pelf I think is a lot like Santana in that he's more of an after all star break pitcher.

That was terrible. I can't believe how bad they were in the closers role once Wagner went down.

Rodriguez is like a breath of frech air coming out of the pen.

lol

15. He did
Although looking at his stats he's not good in the closers role.

Fuckin Manuel fucked this game up royally tonight. How the fuck does he leave Pelfrey out there that long when it's obvious he out of gas. He seems like a nice guy but his personality is just wrong for this team. He's too much from that Joe Torre school where you don't do much too actually manage the game.

17. Jerry Manuel has to be one of the worst managers we've ever had
That guy obviously can't figure out when his starter is gassed. He has to wait till the damage is already done and gives the game away.

He sucks. He completely fucked us two nights in a row.

I think everyone in the park knew Redding wasn't gonna make it through the seventh. At the end of the sixth you could tell he just didn't have it anymore. He struggeled to get out of that inning.

FUCK!!! Last night Pelf was done after the fifth. Even fucking HE KNEW he was done after the fifth as you could tell watching him in the dug out.

Still 2 of 3 from our biggest rival, 7-3 for the road trip- I'll take it.

19. You should send thank you cards to Jerry Manuel's office
That fuckin idiot pretty much gifted you these last two games.

I knew somethin was up when Sanatana shook the ball at Manuel in game one. Not to mention Wright addressing Manuel in dugout on that Tatis play at home ,"Aren't you gonna go out and argue?"

UnFUCKINGbelievable.

Don't know who's worse, Manuel or Art Howe. It's lookin damn close.

One would think with a line up as banged up as the Mets you would do everything you can to win. Manuel seems to enjoy DOING NOTHING!!!!

is that you guys do not have a chance of catching Philadelphia.

Have you changed your position?
