Michigan Court Dismisses Gay Benefits Case
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/04/041505michBens.htm

Michigan's appeals court on Friday dismissed a lawsuit challenging a school board's same-sex partner benefits plan. But, the issue is not likely to end there. The court threw out the case on a technicality without ruling on the issue of the benefits themselves.

Earlier this month a conservative Christian law firm told the court that the Ann Arbor Public School system is in violation of both Michigan's constitutional amendment banning gay marriage and the state's so-called defense of marriage law enacted in 1994.

The Thomas More Law Center, representing 17 taxpayers, asked the court to bar the school district from offering health insurance and retirement benefits to gay couples in future contracts.

1. See if they just wanted to "protect" marriage, you can maybe somehow
stretch yourself to believe that they don't hate gay people. (I know it is a stretch.) But, then they go out and say we don't want any one to even recognize their relationship in any way, even if it isn't marriage. This is about hating gay people, not about marriage protection.

Assholes.

2. I still say we throw it back in their court - make it a religious issue
If my church agrees to marry me, and the state/Feds won't recognize it but they would recognize a Southern Baptist marraige between M/F - then they are favoring one religion over the other.

They either give us all the same thing, or do away with all the benefits for everyone. Either way is fine with me.

Make it a religious war, that'll really bring the total nut jobs out of their holes - let them start screaming loudly in the courts, the TV's, the papers that this denomination and that one are all going to hell because of what they believe - talk about rousing support for our equal treatment and setting the wingnuts' cause back to the 15th century where they seemingly still want to live all at the same time.
