The Indigo Girls would never have met with Rick Warren
Edited on Tue Dec-23-08 10:14 PM by LostinVA
Haruka and I were just joking about it, but I also mean it.

Or, if they had, they would have kicked his ass better than SKITTLES.

on edit: for some reason, Haruka wants me to add that Emily is Methodist.

3. LOL
I really believe this is the first time I have seen IG mentioned on here...

"Welcome to why the church has died
In the heart of the exiled in the kingdom of hate
Who owns the land & keeps the commands
And marries itself to the state
Modern scribes write in Jesus Christ
Everyone is free

And the doors open wide to all straight men & women
But they are not open to me
And who is teaching kids to be soldiers
To be marked by a plain white cross
And we kill just a little to save a lot more

The philosophy of loss
There are a few who would be true out of love
And love is hard

And don't think that our hands haven't shoveled the dirt
Over their central American graveyards
Doctors & witch hunters stripped you bare
Left you nothing for your earthly sins
Yeah but who made this noise just a bunch of boys
And the one with the most toys wins
Who is teaching kids to be gamblers
Life is a coin toss
And of course what you give up is what you gain

The philosophy of loss

Whatever has happened to anyone else
Could happen to you & to me
And the end of my youth was the possible truth
That it all happens randomly
Who is teaching kids to be leaders
and the way that it is meant to be
the philosophy of loss"

7. Hmmmm Jersey
I saw them somewhere near Englishtown...I can't remember the name of the actual town though...it was that town with the church from the movie...you know which one I mean right? :D

I have seen them in Wilmington, DE and Philly more than in Jersey though.

9. I knew Amy and Emily way back in the day
When I was living in Athens, GA in the late 80's; you're right, they wouldn't have.

10. I saw Emily out and about in Atlanta earlier this year.
It was the night of Super Tuesday and my partner and I were at Manuel's Tavern, a local liberal hangout in our neighborhood. There are TV's all over the restaurant and bar, and they were all tuned to election results (Georgia has a Super Tuesday primary). I happened to notice Emily there, a couple of tables away from me, wearing a "Hillary '08" t-shirt.

I was a bit starstruck. :)

13. her father has caught flack for supporting gays in the UMC
I thought he was a minister but he teaches at Emory's divinity school

people like this are lost in the rush to use that broad brush to paint all people of faith as homophobes and bigots

I wouldn't be a member of my church if it wasn't supportive of me; of course having a lesbian minister certainly helps!
