is that much sooner than later you can reference your husband or wife and no raised eyebrows.
I am disabled and I have been having a tough time the past few days. Something happened the other day that got me thinking and that's how I came up with my holiday/New Years/anything you want to call it wish-hopefully not stupid.
I was looking at being responsible for another holiday dinner for my partner's family and I wasn't looking forward to it. It sure isn't a potluck. My dear, sweet husband looked at me the other day and said he wanted split pea soup for Christmas dinner. The ham is done and people are welcome to come over for a bowl of soup and a ham sandwich. No dressing, no yams-candied or otherwise and all of the rest. We are having a quiet dinner. Most everyone else found dinners to go to and I am going to enjoy the whole day tomorrow.
I have shared this story with a lot of people. I have been told I have the world's greatest husband and I think we should all be able to talk about our spouses or partners the same way. My family will continue to work and walk along side you.

4. As another gay man with a disability, |
|
I wish you the best, and I hope you are as well as you can be.
I don't have a partner. I'm spending this week with a dear friend and her mom, my extended chosen family.
We are having a similarly mellow holiday, cooking what we want, having meals for just the three of us, having a wonderful vacation. I'm have to spend a lot of time in bed, and I have some very inconvenient routines and needs. It's very nice to be with people who know what I need, care about it, and step in the help without comment whenever they see that it's needed. That's family!
We need family too. Just like anybody. It's it wonderful when they're there for us? :)

7. And a New Year of joy and promise for all of you |
|
My partner and I were taking stock of how far we've come and how blessed we are. We have a roof over our heads; a mortgage but it's our own little spot out in the woods. Ain't much at all, but it's filled with love. The love of three good dogs and each other to keep us warm at night. We're having sandwiches later on, too, but the leftovers are from a meal made and shared with love, veggies from our own garden. No presents in boxes with bows; they're padding around us on four feet, jostling for attention (and maybe a treat).
These are the best things we know. We wish them for all of you. Whatever your vision of perfection, peace, love, security, the perfect partner, a home of your own... if I could hand them out I'd do so joyfully. What I can freely return is the affection and friendship extended to me by my mates here at DU. Thank you all and good holidays -- and a better New Year -- to you all.
