6. The term
"mosaic" is also proper and acceptable, I've been given to understand.

That also sounds kinda cool, "many making one".

10. "Mosaic" might be a good universal term for everyone.

14. I was listening to a very interesting segment on NPR
about a month ago about the genetic study of sexuality. It most certainly isn't the strict XX/XY we were taught in high school biology class. As it turns out, there are people with XXY, XYY and all sort of other combinations.

There really is a rainbow.

The fundies can stick the Leviticus they don't follow where the sun don't shine. There is a great preponderance of science behind the vast array of human sexual expression and feeling. Gender roles, shmender shmoles; this is very cool stuff they're finding out.

I've long said folks need to lighten up. "Mosaic" might be a good place to start.

Being a Gemini, I'm rather partial to rainbows and vast shades of expression :)

15. Being an Aquarius, I like things that make sense and involve huge universal statements of justice.
The more idealized, the better.

I know that you are an animal lover, as am I, and we know that animals express a wide diversity of affectional orientations. They don't have the hangups about this that humans have developed as part of our power structures. There are gay animals and bi animals. Further, my cats think nothing of my partner and me hugging and kissing, whereas the supposedly more evolved fraternity kids freak out when confronted with anything slightly outside the "norms" they were taught.

And as for the number of homophobes here in the south who eat pork barbecue and fried shrimp, don't even get me started....

17. Girl, please
you and I live either side of Elon and they know everwhichaways to turn a pig.

I have a long weekend and we still ought to meet up at that gourmet BBQ place, speaking of which. Their vegetarian veggies are to die over. I could gorge on their garlic and olive-oil laced green beans alone.

And don't get me started on pigs. I'm trying to behave since the new year is only two and a half hours old

My girls are peacefully asleep, arrayed between me and husbear. I'm finishing my last cig for the night, banishing syslogs from my email (admin work is never done, not even on holidays, sigh) and paying bills. THAT never ends, either. Both TVs died and I'm sorry, I can't live without HGTV (y'know, Hers and Gays TV) and oogling that hunk Jason Cameron on the weekends. Gives my husbear too many damned ideers and I get a mile-long list of honey-do's. But I'm damnwell gonna drool over Jason before I get to work. Gotta have SOMETHING for inspiration.

Gonna tiptoe to bed. Everyone hug the one closest to you. In my case, that's a sleepy maremma. She'll pad into bed behind me. Husbear will soon wake from the couch and follow.

Blessed Be.

"The fundies can stick the Leviticus they don't follow where the sun don't shine."

Have been re-reading the OT recently. In the context of Christianity, it might be described as "all of the absurd and ridiculous ideas people had, and stories about the terrible things they did." The NT then says "forget all of that stuff, it didn't work out very well. The idea was love and compassion and brotherhood, and we have gotten way, way off the track here." Taking the errors people made, the cruel and ignorant things they were thinking and doing, and turning that into a modern political program is just nuts, and very much anti-Christian. I probably just pissed everyone off now lol.

22. That's they way I was taught.
The OT message was: an eye for an eye.

The NT message was: turn the other cheek.

One was fire and brimstone the other was quit radical: care for those who are poor, the "least of these."

The historic context of the time, place and people who wrote the OT and the NT is lost, because by definition it is read "fundamentally" and literally.

Add to that the political motivation for using select texts to suit a RW agenda and there is where the cynical misuse of text comes into play as a way to control people and gain and maintain political power.

4. After eight long years I am really looking forward to
a change at the top. The last eight years were war, decline, lies, uncertainty, horrible bigotry, well...let's face it, the worst one in history.

I am ready for the future!

Obviously I am home with the kids, sharing a bottle of non-alcoholic bubbly with them.

Happy 2009 to all LGBT DUers and our hetero allies!

Instead of going out and partying, I decided to ring in this year by doing some creative work. Which I've been neglecting for this last year. :P
