So what is everyone doing tomorrow?
I had been really looking forward to a grand celebration - but I just can't work up any enthusiasm with Warren being give a place of honor on the stage (and by implication stature as a spiritual adviser to Obama).

2004, and being blamed for losing the election.
2004, and having 2/3 of the voters in Ohio take time out of their busy days to come spit on my family by passing the hateful Ohio marriage discrimination amendment.
2008 and 11,000 couples in California wondering if they are still married - with Warren acting as one of the cheerleaders for bigotry, comparing our marriages to incest, and us to pedophiles.
1993 and DADT.
1996 and the federal Marriage Discrimination Act.

All slights or direct kicks - often by people who are supposed to be on my side. Warren (compounded by the mass screw-up with Robinson) is just one more blow that just hurts too much, and I no longer feel like celebrating.

I really haven't decided whether I'm even going to bother watching, even though I expect I'd regret not watching in the long run solely from a historical perspective.

So - what are you all doing tomorrow?

(And please, don't dump in this thread to tell me to grow up, get over it, it's only two minutes, etc. I've posted this inquiry it in what should be a supportive section of what should be a supportive forum. I'm looking for support and creative ideas - not an argument or condescension. If you want to do that, please start your own thread in a different section of the forum.)

5. I'm going to work my ass off so I have money to pay rent next month
And then I'm coming home and getting a good night's sleep so I can do the same thing on Wednesday and Thursday and Friday and probably Saturday.

I might find a way to listen to the inaugural address, but I won't have time to stop and watch an entire day's worth of wall to wall inaugural coverage.

6. Making sure all the trash is taken out,
making sure there are fresh linens on the beds, fresh towels in the bathrooms.

Ribs will be in the oven, slowly roasting.

All TVs turned on to MSNBC so as not to miss a minute.

A tall ecru candle burning.

Wearing my lucky pearls.

Watching, waiting, hoping on a day I never in my long life thought I would see.............

10. Stopping everything and being thankful.
You know, nothing is perfect. Let's remember what we're leaving behind. And more than anything, know that we will have a voice in the White House that will be speaking compassion, inclusion, caring.

We're leaving ugliness, and entering a new era of knowledge and understanding.

What I'm trying to say is hard to put into words. I mean that now the potential force is going to be in the right direction. Things may not be right immediately, but people will learn.

I just got off the phone with my dad. He's 84. His friend is nearly 90, and was resistant to vote for a black man. But with their talks over time his friend is coming around. It's all about understanding. Knowledge.

I'm hopeful.

12. NOT watching an official god botherer
and the fact that it's a fat bigot like Warren only makes it that much more irritating than it already was.

I'll be waiting until after the whole hooplah finishes in hopes they show Stupid getting on some sort of transportation and leaving.

That's when I'll open the sparkling cider and breathe a sigh of relief.

15. agreed
My sister is having an inaugural party, and while I'm repulsed by Warren I'm going to go. I plan to leave the room during his appearance because life is too short to be insulted and offended and demeaned.

The highlight of the day for me will be the departure of Bush. I can't wait to see him chopper off the South lawn - THAT I wouldn't miss for the world. That's when my personal celebration will begin.

It's raining now and not yet freezing, which means that blanket of snow will be on top of a layer of ice in the morning. I hope we have at least some fluffy snow though.

17. I'm playing Runescape and watching for the snow ALL DAY LONG.
Edited on Tue Jan-20-09 12:51 AM by Jamastiene
Of course, I play Runescape every day. We may have snow...I like looking at snow from the warmth of my home. That lets out my computer room. My computer room is practically a wind tunnel because I have a fan on medium right on the computer to keep it cool for game playing, which means it's cold in this room. Meh, what else is a girl to do?

I'm girlcotting the Inauguration. I cannot work myself up to enjoy it at all. I mean, seriously, we gave him our votes and he is giving us the brush off. I know a brush off when I see one. I'm no fool. So, I'll enjoy what I enjoy tomorrow...my video game. I'm really close to 87 Agility and going for 99, which is going to take about 2 months at this rate anyhow.

I'm going to work - I expect I'll have the opportunity to watch there (boss is a political junkie), don't know if I'll take advantage or not.

I'll come home, do a bit on my current volunteer project if I'm not too tired, then I'll just crash.

23. I will be watching the Inauguration. I not sure exactly HOW I will do that, but I do intend to
Edited on Tue Jan-20-09 03:42 AM by kenny blankenship
I don't know how I'll manage to see the parts that I want to see and avoid seeing the parts that are slap at my civil rights as an American who happens to be gay, and (strange to say) an even more painful and more unexpected insult to my place within the Democratic Party.

The last thing I expected during all this time was not to be ecstatically happy on the day a Democratic President took over after Bush. I've waited 8 awful years for this day, and I backed Barack Obama with money during both the primaries and the general. If you told me last Nov. 1 that I would be feeling sad and guarded on Jan 20th, maybe even unable to stomach watching the Inauguration, I'd have told you you must be fucking crazy! Yet here we are.

And the disappointment has much more to do at this point, with what I've learned about "Democratic Underground" --both its inmates and wardens--than it does with Barack Obama or Rick Warren. Now i know, Obama isn't President yet and he's not responsible for what bigoted scumbags are posting in his name at DU. And yet it becomes much more difficult for one to give Obama the benefit of the doubt when people you had thought were your Democratic allies are telling you that your faggy feelings don't matter, you should be happy with whatever subset of rights society allows you, or that it's no secret that Obama doesn't care much for fags so too bad for the fags that he won the election, and that it's funny to them that all the fags got their widdle feelings hurt. Oh they don't say ha ha look at the disappointed faggots --tricked ya! No, that would be a clear violation of DU rules and might even get deleted. But there are a huge number of posts --admittedly from only a few posters-- in which that tone is unmistakably clear and familiar to any gay person.

I always knew "they" were out there, but this episode has been a real eye-opening experience and I can never look at this place the same way again.

Tell any young gay person you know to move to Canada, as soon as they can. This country doesn't deserve their energies and hopes -and they don't deserve what it will do to their dreams.

I was talking to my mother - who gets that I'm in pain - jut not all the nuances. She said, "then don't watch and don't celebrate." The point is that I wanted to - I've been waiting to celebrate for years, I've been expecting to celebrate - and that I just can't is really hard today.

well, working is never sad, it puts kibbles in the bowel, but, I do want to watch this historic event, too.

Oh, and watching the snow drift down around our igloo, still.....more snow..still. eep.

Looking forward to seeing Pres. Obama being sworn in and greatly anticipating his inaugural address, he is the best orator of our time.

Then, more snow :eyes:

Everyone be safe and enjoy. :hi:
