The smallest figure for how many human adults are homosexual ever found by a scientific study is 2%. The 2000 census places the US population at 281,421,906; that would mean there are about 5,628,438 gay people in this country. The American Religious Identification Survey of 2001 reported only 2,831,000 Jews in the United States.

And yet, no one is (openly) asserting that, as a tiny minority, Jews should be stripped of their right to marry, adopt children, etc.

except that so many fundie-types (for whatever reason) try to suggest the idea that the actual numbers are meniscule. No, it matters not- but I do let people know that it's WAY more than the 0.000001% that they suggest.

Some months back, during the debate of a city council proposal called "One Baton Rouge" (which was just a declaration that Baton Rouge as a city would not tolerate discrimination based on race, sex, sexual orientation, etc...), one of the opposing councilwomen made a statement that sexual orientation shouldn't be included, as there were probably only 100 gay people in Baton Rouge.

Actually, I would be interested in knowing what triggers a kid to go one way or the other just out of scientific curiosity. I know there are physiological indicators, but they are correlative and not causative.
