Two women found dead in Statesboro home - Police call deaths 'suspicious'
http://www.statesboroherald.com/news/article/17960/

Two women were found dead Wednesday morning after someone saw smoke and reported a house fire at a Harden Road residence. After Statesboro firefighters arrived at the scene around 9:45 a.m. and extinguished the flames, they discovered a woman’s body and called police, said Statesboro Police Chief Stan York.
Statesboro Police detectives responded and discovered a second woman’s body, he said.

Statesboro Police Capt. Scott Brunson, who called the fire “suspicious,” said the bodies of Naumbyia T. German, 26, and Kiona Lively, 27, who both lived at the residence, were sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Crime lab for testing.

Neither Brunson nor Statesboro Fire Chief Dennis Merrifield would comment on the cause of the fire, and Brunson said he would not release additional details, including the cause of death, until crime lab reports were returned. He said he expects the results Thursday or Friday.

A third woman who lived at the residence, whom Brunson said was the mother of one of the victims, was found unharmed at a local motel shortly after the fire was discovered, he said. He said she is not a suspect in the case.

According to www.facebook.com, German and Lively were married in March 2007 in a civil ceremony in Toronto, Canada. Lively is a former Bi-Lo employee and Georgia Southern University graduate with a criminal justice degree. Also, Brunson said Lively served an internship at the Statesboro Police Department.

Im glad that it was not hate that motivated this - but suicide is tragic in most cases and hopefully we can learn more and reduce its frequency in all populations.

Police: Statesboro woman kills lover, self

STATESBORO, Ga. (AP) -- Police say a Statesboro woman fatally shot a woman she was romantically involved with and set their house on fire before killing herself.

Statesboro police Chief Stan York said in a statement Thursday that preliminary autopsy results showed 27-year-old Kiona Thais Lively shot Naumbyia T. German multiple times early Wednesday morning. York said Lively then set German's body and the house on fire and shot herself.

York said the apparent murder-suicide happened during a domestic dispute between the two women, who were romantically involved.

German's mother lived with the couple. York said Lively dropped her off at a nearby motel before the shooting. Police found the older woman there unharmed and unaware of what had happened.
