7. Former CU coach, Bill McCartney & Promise Keepers
Of course they are arguably more rabidly misogynistic, than homophobic, though I'm sure, given the time the would be.

8. It's an easy way for people to make money 'on their name' after
they are washed up in sports. Evangelism is easy money. If you aren't famous you just need a tent and a jar to pass around during the service. If you have a name all you have to do is make a deal with TBN's Paul and Jan Crouch.

9. So why the Homophobia of their preaching?
There's no reason one can not make money and not be a bigot at the same time - I still cant find one thats not homophobic and I've been searching off and on for a bit (there very well may be one thats not homophobic but I cant find one LOL).

10. Homophobia brings in the assholes, and
it's a sure money-raiser. Those homophobes are so afraid that they'll get involved with some hairy guy that they donate money almost automatically.

I mean, what's with all the grabassing and hugging on the football field, anyhow?

13. Promise Keepers.
http://www.promisekeepers.org/about/pkhistory

March 20, 1990: The Birth of an Idea

Bill McCartney, then football coach for the University of Colorado, and Dave Wardell, Ph.D. traveled to a Fellowship of Christian Athletes banquet in Pueblo, Colorado. In the context of praying and worshipping together, Coach asked Dave, "What do you feel is the most important factor in changing a man spiritually, from immaturity to maturity?"

Dave immediately replied, "Discipleship."

Coach then shared how there is a special dynamic when men come together to honor Jesus Christ. He envisioned a gathering of 50,000 men at the University of Colorado’s Folsom Field for training and teaching on what it means to be godly men. He was imagining a revival among Christian men who were willing to take a stand for God in their marriages, families, churches, and communities. Revival and discipleship are the two elements that became the foundation and focus of Promise Keepers.

Gay-Lesbian Rights: PK is opposed to equal rights for gays and lesbians, including the right to marry. They describe homosexuality as a sin that "violates God's creative design for a husband and wife." The founder, Bill McCartney served on the board of Colorado for Family Values, which sponsored the anti-gay Amendment 2 in Colorado. That amendment barred local laws in the state of Colorado that guaranteed equal rights for gays and lesbians. (It was later declared unconstitutional by the US Supreme Court.) A PK spokesperson, Jim Jewell said at the time of the Washington DC rally that "The Bible and Promise Keepers are preaching that any sex outside a marriage between a man and a woman violates God's standards. If the charge against Promise Keepers is that we are taking the Bible too seriously or literally, we plead guilty to that."

Granted they are more famous for being really horribly sexist, but the two things (homophobia and sexism) usually go together so I thought it worth throwing them in there.

15. I wondered the same thing a few weeks ago
Maybe:

Brain damage from repeated blows to the head
+ Shrunken penis from steroid abuse
________________________________________________________________
= Need to inflate one's self-worth through abuse of others
(gays in particular) via the bully-pulpit of a mega-church.

Of course there's all that $$$$ they rake in for hawking their theocratic bullshit, which doesn't hurt. It's not like any of them are going to write Pulitzer prize winners or anything so they have to do what they can to make a living.....
