Please remember to vote for Adam Lambert tonight on American Idol and vote against hate and
bigotry! . The Fundies and the Freepers( FR is supporting Danny Gokey, the Fundie choir director) will be powere votong against him. We need to take a stand. We may not be able to do much about Miss california , but we can take a stand here. Please vote for Adam Lambert and vote against hate! it is reported that Adam will be singing "One" by Bono as the selection made by Simon Cowell as the judges selection. This is a tribute to all who celebrate differences. Please make your voice heard and vote as often as you can.

2. i'll vote for gokey AND lambert.
depending on if they both perform well.

i am not going to punish gokey because some of his supporters are assmunches.

i'll leave identity politics out of my support for the arts (to whatever extent one can consider idol "art")

adam lambert has been consistently the best (except for his ring of fire).

3. Well the main problem with Gokey- he doesn't have the talent or star power of Chris or Adam
Gokey has not grown or developed as the two of them have.

And that scream of his last week -- atrocious. He needs to go home.

4. And it's come to this...
We're now politicizing American Idol...this is just sad. The fact that we think it necessary to vote for Adam because he's gay or something, and that the right feels it necessary to vote for Danny because he's a Christian.

We could always vote for the person who can sing best...oh wait! That's right, no one left on that show CAN.

I still cannot understand the fascination with him. He is consistently off-pitch, and his "original renditions" are simply re-hashings of a previous cover.

Who don't like Adam would stay the fuck off this thread. It's not for you, dipshits!

I've never been a big idol fan, but Adam has sucked me right in. I've never voted before and I'm going to vote tonight.

And as for politicizing idol? It's those church fuckers who are doing it - they call him evil and a demon - they lead prayer groups AGAINST him and they are invested in voting him out or they think they've failed jebus. Those fucking jackasses make me sick.

But it's us who are politicizing idol? Not. One of the things I love about Adam is that he makes no apologies for who he is and he doesn't hide who he is. He's the best role model for gay kids I've seen in a long time and those cretins leading prayer groups against him (way to be christ-like you fucktards) just can't have an out gay man who is obviously comfortable with himself and from all reports a nice person, anywhere he can be seen.

Yeah, we're the ones turning this into a culture war.

Those assholes on the right have turned us into fucking whipping boys/girls for their hate for the past 20 years, yet *we're* turning this into a culture war? They preach hate against us any chance they get and we're the ones making this into a culture war?

During his homecoming he didn't have a mini concert, instead we went back to his High School and spent time with the kids. He spoke with them about being different and not fitting in. He told them that different was good and to be proud. (something along those lines)
After that he went back to the children's theater he performed with and spent 1 1/2 hours with those kids.
After the show airs in Ca., I'm spending 2 hours power voting for him.

47. I like all three of them
It is a sad sad day when a singing competition devolves into a culture war. Danny Gokey is probably my favorite - and that is strictly personal preference that has absolutely nothing to do with who else supports him or not.
Chris is also a fine singer.
Adam Lambert is truly unforgettable - but that does not necessarily mean that I love his singing. He has the pipes - there is no question on that--some loved his Ring of Fire rendition - I did not. I thought it was quite awful - however--I played it to my family--and they laughed about it too. And I have not forgotten it -- whereas Danny's and Chris's songs have not left such an indelible mark on my memory.
I'm not saying don't vote for Adam--or vote for Adam--but to suggest voting for Adam is a vote against hate.....well that turns me off to the point of stop watching altogether. The same would be said if I knew or heard others suggesting to vote for Danny to make a political/cultural statement.
And finally - I don't think you are being at all fair to the artists. If Adam wins - will it be because he is the best singer? Or will it be because certain groups will see his win as a triumph in their cause? Is that why Adam entered in the first place??? If Adam loses--will certain groups cry foul-that it would be a slap in the face of gay/lesbian rights? How does that reconcile with the abilities of Danny?
It is a singing competition....SINGING. Let the best singer win. If the artists want to make a political/cultural statement with their art after the competition - then fantastic. And I would support their freedom to do so--but I will not vote based on the reasons you give.

48. There are groups supporting Danny as the anti-Adam
Edited on Wed May-13-09 11:44 AM by dbonds
Many churches don't want a gay american idol. They have organized hundreds of people to sit in call centers and vote. One center last week claimed 170k votes. We are not nearly as organized, but we are trying to counter what they are doing a bit. Yes it is a shame they started this. I would rather Adam win on his own merits. I personally don't think Danny is in the same class as Adam or Kris, he misses notes and is just bland. I would have been happy with Adam, Kris, or Allison (but she got the boot last week).

74. LOL...I did the same thing. Except why are they taking it out on
Adam? I went to Vote for the Worst and even though they voted for him, they are loving Gokey being gone.

70. All Adam fans - please read this article!! Ann Powers - "Rethinking Adam's One"
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/americanidoltracker/2009/05/ann-powers-rethinking-adams-one.html

Lambert said in a USA Today interview that he's not much of a U2 fan; the grit and sleaze of Aerosmith, whose "Crying" he selected for himself, is more his style. But he appreciates the message carried within Simon Cowell's pick for him. He used his brief post-performance chat with Ryan Seacrest to ask "Idol" viewers to consider it: "I think agreed that the lyrics of this song, if you guys rewind it back at home, the lyrics are really beautiful," he said.

Since every song performed on "Idol" is seriously truncated, it's worthwhile to review what lyrics Lambert and his mentor-for-the-night, Cowell, considered essential -- and what Lambert's interpretation did to Bono's inspirational words.

Lambert's version reenacted U2's reworking of the song with Mary J. Blige in 2005. His rendering of the first verse was somber and a little weary, like Bono's own; then he cut to the bridge, and the famous lines, "Love is a temple/love's a higher law," and let go, into diva territory.

In this instance, the "screeching" that has become Lambert's trademark (and, to some, his bane) had a specific meaning. Taking on both Bono's part and Blige's, mimicking their phrasing and then carefully elaborating on it, he made the connection between the vocal stylings with which he's wowed the nation and those of the black women who have inspired hard rockers from Mick Jagger to Steven Tyler to U2's own soul-obsessed frontman.

Lambert also stressed the song's most powerful lyrics about learning to live with difference. Though its message is universal, "One" has often been linked to the movement for gay and lesbian rights; U2 encouraged this connection, dressing in drag in one of the three videos made to promote the song, using images created by the artist and queer activist David Wojnarowicz in another, and donating proceeds from the single to fund AIDS research.
