for all who think Adam Lambert didn't matter! This post from AI says it all!
This is why appearances by people like Adam are so important and should be supported! This is the kind of understanding we need to develop.

ADAM HAS CHANGED MY MIND

Posts: 180 Regardless of the way that I have felt about his fans over the course of this season, tonight I feel like I was finally able to shed all of that dislike and really look at Adam and his situation from his point of view. He has had to go through so much just being in this competition, and I think that the reason I didn't fully understand this before is because he has always managed to push it all aside and hit that stage week after week with a brave face. I admire and respect him for that ability. The ignorance, biotry, and hate has been staggering (just over the course of a couple of days) and had I been in the position that he has been in, I probably would have buckled. From people digging so heavily into his private life and business, to passing judgement based on a lifestyle that he has chosen for himself. His talent is real and amazing, the best I have had the pleasure of listening to, and it is a shame that all this other "mess" has unfortunately clouded that for some. I wonder how he feels when his fellow contestants come out with a video proclaiming their views on "godly" love, or when a "pastor" urges voters to vote for the "next believer", or when O'reilly feels it imperative to inform all that a "gay idol" is unacceptable, or when voters claim that he is not "idol" material... I cried re-watching his Change is Gonna Come perfomance, because for the first time I allowed myself to be open and really think about his struggle. I'm crying now because it hurts to think of it.... I can't write anymore because this is killing me, so i'll end this by saying that Adam Lambert is a hero, He has one of the most amazing talents and an ability to touch, he is an idol in so many ways, and a winner in every sense of the word.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU ADAM LAMBERT, AND BE SAFE.

4. I disagree.
Some people just can't connect with an idea without something like this drawing them into it, and if someone doesn't interact with gay people or talk with any often, stuff like this... the hardships gay people endure... it just floats by them. I guess things have to be somehow personalized for them to get it.

Somehow Adam's situation finally flipped the "empathy" switch in that oner person's head, and I doubt they're alone.

11. Very true...popular culture and entertainment can change people's views...
...probably more than politicians do.

15. IMO a lot more than politicians do.
Most look at politicians through a lens of mistrust, if at all.

This kind of stuff is far more pervasive... and more likely to overcome that barrier that people set up against the 'other side', politically speaking.

26. I agree with you - change always comes when it finally hits mainstream America.
My boyfriend used to be a Republican and he's come a long long way - he hates Bush/Cheney and the current crew of Repubs. Now he's railing against homophobes and evangelicals. This has only helped to reinforce his dislike.

There were large numbers of people on those idol blogs of people saying they were 50-60 year old grandmothers who loved Adam. There was also a fair number of Evangelicals who were saying they were also fans. Wonder how they feel now.

A lot of red staters on the boards are saying "I'm from a red state and I voted for Adam." I think this has brought out a lot of shame in these people that live in the red states because so many people are angry about this.

9. She's taking it for exactly what it is..a moment when rightness matters more than some realize...
The Don't Ask Don't Tell Debate was another one of those moments. Those who stayed quiet on the sidelines helped shape that victory for the consistently wrongheaded.

12. Symbolic battles are easier
Man, if only Isaiah Washington had been singing opposite Adam in the finale. Then we could've really gotten some LGBT boots on the ground!

It's trifling, and easy, and requires no effort or investment from people. So of course it's a massive deal.

I also love how Lambert is now a hero. For what, doing what he has always done? The guy can't even spit out the word gay. Instead he deflects and plays coy and never really comes out and says who he is in any plain manner. Even in an interview specifically about the gay issue, he made no mention of it, instead dancing around it by muttering incoherently about race and gender.

Doesn't a hero require some semblance of courage and sacrifice? What is he sacrificing? He's getting his fondest wish - to perform on stage in front of an audience. At this point, he's discovered, going to get a record deal, and going to live his wildest dreams.

There are many gay heroes out there who deserve our attention and effort. A moderately competent karaoke singer who's about to make millions of dollars doesn't strike me as one of them.

But, you know, he's on reality TV and stuff. So sooper dooper important!

And mark my words, many of the people heavily invested in this singer are the same ones you'll often find complaining that the MSM keeps us too distracted by inconsequential bullshit to ever get real change.

What it really comes down to is that people should have been concerned about his talent. It shouldn't be that a hugely talented and accomplished person is reduced to being a "fag."

2. I wouldn't worry to much about Adam.. He is going to be just fine and I expect...
to see him crowned the winner of AI tonight. Adam is with out doubt heads above all of the other contestants that were on the show, and much better than Chris.

3. You really have to wonder at some of the late night conversations
him and Kris have had about all of this - they've obviously become close over these past weeks and it had to be rather eye-opening to Kris as well that all this would go on and how much it would affect his friend. It's very likely that he's never seen it before - or certainly never seen it through the eyes of someone being affected by it.

This is from zabasearch.com. They have a good track record of predicting the AI winner. Let's hope their track record continues unvarnished.

ADAM LAMBERT WINS!
by greater than a 56% to 44% margin

And NO, you are not taking this too seriously. As a 54 year old African American woman, I can identify with the struggles of being considered inferior by the ruling classes. I think it's really messed up for people to question your pain, dreams and hope in this matter. The American Idol is an American icon. I, like you see how a gay man winning this title says to Americans that gay Americans are just as American as anyone else. And that maybe once people see that, they will be more accepting of GLBT civil rights.

13. Well, he is also one of the most talented people to perform on National TV
ever. He is rated as such by professionals in the music industry as well as being classified as one of the great countertenors in history. One of my problems is that folks ARE voting against him based on his orientation, and that is a crime!

"I'm not voting for or giving a job to anyone solely on the basis of their sexual orientation, goddamnit."

See? Much better.

10. The sentiment is nice, even though this comment is incorrect:
"...to passing judgement based on a lifestyle that he has chosen for himself."

He didn't chose any lifestyle, unless of course the meaning has to do with music and not sexual orientation.

25. It will be easier to get the true spiritual Christians to change their name.
They are 'so called christians' when it comes to the teaching of what the bible says Jesus preached. But they are going to own that title because in their small black and white minds, christian = good, anything else = bad. So they brand their hate as christian and the label has been hijacked. Spiritual Christians should look for new a new label and new organizations.

28. Here's one person who proclaims that "Adam is my American Idol" but is a southern Christian redneck
"Adam is my American Idol. He will go on to be the best male idol ever. And by the way I'm a southern christian redneck."

I've been seeing several people who proclaim they are evangelicals, rednecks, conservatives and they are mad as hell. Maybe this will help to open a few eyes and chnage a few minds.
