Because we obviously haven't had enough today.

Pentagon to continue DADT discharges

(Washington) President Barack Obama’s top military adviser says the Pentagon has enough challenges - including two wars - without rushing to overturn a decade-old policy that bans gays and lesbians from serving openly in the military and incites political and social factions on both sides.

Adm. Michael Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said he is working on an assessment of what - if any - impact overturning “don’t ask, don’t tell” policies would mean for the military and its culture. In the meantime, the Pentagon plans to follow the existing rules, which say gays and lesbians can serve in the military if they do not disclose their sexuality or engage in homosexual behavior.

“The president has made his strategic intent very clear, that it’s his intent at some point in time to ask Congress to change this law,” Mullen said. “I think it’s important to also know that this is the law, this isn’t a policy. And for the rules to change, a law has to be changed.”

1. Meh.
Everyone an ignorant semi-theocracy like Israel allows LGBT individuals to serve in its military. The Land of the Free and the Daughter of Enlightment should not be more savage than an *insert your BS sect here* state.

6. Good. I learned that lesson about politicians years ago.
Trust no politician and you will never be disappointed.

Also, never fall in love with a politician. I feel so sorry for the folks I see here who post "Ohhhh, I just LOVE Obama." Saps.

3. total bs
These studies have already been done, they're recent, and they indicate that overturning DADT won't have any negative impact on the military.

This is nothing more than a stalling tactic, a political calculation for 2010. Well, guess what - if nothing is done this year, there sure as hell will be political blowback in 2010 because a LOT of us will just fucking stay home.

4. I can't believe
ANYONE believed Obama would do anything for equal rights for us 2nd class citizens. It's not a disappointment because I, like a lot of us hysterical gays, saw this coming and didn't trust him at all when it came to civil rights.

5. The US military is run by an Evangelical cult
don't expect them to voluntarily change this policy.

7. They couldn't "voluntarily" change it if they wanted to. It's law.
It requires an act of Congress to change.

9. Obama Could Suspend It Right Now With a Stroke of His Pen.
I sure wish you Obama enablers would find something better to do than help spread this myth that the man is powerless to do anything for GLBT people.

13. Come on. Obama isn't even allowed to pick out his own dinner
Clearly, you're giving the man credit for having much more credit than the President actually has.

12. OFFS
Did it occur to any of those fuckwit gun humpers at the Pentagon that maybe we wouldn't have so many goddamn challenges in said wars if we weren't throwing out some of our best people over petty bigotry and superstitious bullshit?

GAWD.
