What the friggin hey! Someone please tell me this isn't for real...
I was scanning the headlines of the Cincinnati Enquirer's online home page when I espied a link to a blog titled, "Gay News from NASA and Beantown".

When I clicked on the link and began to read, my freaking jaw dropped to the floor! Was this satire? Is this person for real? If it isn't satire, why the hell does the Enquirer have a link to this outrageous, hate-filled screed on its home page?

Here's a link to the page -- on the right column, bottom, are links to the blogs.
http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/frontpage
(The blog below "Gay News from NASA and Beantown" is, "So, you're black, we don't really care, just stop being a jerk." Jeezil, is this crap really what the Enquirer wishes to link to on its home page?

Even more unbelievable is that there was also a front page report on the GLBT Weekend Festival, then this homophobic rant.

Someone please tell me this isn't real....

2. I have no idea why cincinnati.com would link to this wingnut
But he is a fairly typical wingnut...

"Gene Lalor is a retired English teacher who taught in New York schools for 28 years. He received his BA from Fordham University in 1964, his MA from St. John’s University in 1971 and his PhD from St. John’s University in 1977. He has been married 40 years and is the proud father of 3 grown kids and proud grandfather of 3 (beautiful) grandkids. He and his wife reside on Long Island.

Lalor has published extensively on the now-defunct citizen-journal.net, politico.com, townhall.com, moonbattery.com, Ezine.com,et al and this website was recently accepted for syndication on AmericanConservativeDaily.com. He has been interviewed on the radio by Gregg Jackson and Kevin Whelan on Punditreview.com (3-16-08) and by Papa Joe Chevalier on papajoetalk.com (3-28-08).

He wrote an Immodest Proposal for Ending and Winning the War on Terror: A Curmudgeon’s Plan for Survival as a response to the grave danger from Islam now faced by America and the nation’s failure to adequately confront that peril since September 11th, 2001. The book was re-issued on March 31, 2008.

It proposes an admittedly radical plan to defeat terrorism, a radical and unique proposal to defeat a radical and unique enemy which is not merely bent on defeating but destroying our nation."

I'm just guessing here, not wanting to buy his e-book, but his "Immodest Proposal" is likely a nuclear strike on the large Muslim population centers.

And he has the typical wingnut hate issues down... Gays, Obama, birthers, abortion, climate change (impossible!), Gore, Clinton, liberals, and on and on. All of the usual suspects from someone with something really wrong with them.

I'm guessing he is about one fifth of Jack Daniels away from getting his favorite gun and shooting some "liberals and gays and ragheads". Claims to be educated (PhD in English, HA!) but he didn't do much with such a degree, you'd think, being a "doctor" an all, that he would be a favorite guest of the Hannitys and the Savages of the world, especially flogging a book which is Ann Coulter pushed further to the right (and you didn't think THAT was possible!).

Oh well, I hope his kids and grandkids are much more normal reasonable people. One can hope.

4. Thanks for the explanation
To be honest, I've never heard of this guy. I guess I've now lost my blissful ignorance on the subject of Mr. Lalor.

So I now wonder whether his blog is a regular feature at cincinnati.com -- I was hoping this was just some terrible mistake of which they were unaware.

i will not paint the people there with a broad brush but they have more than their fair share of these assholes. no one comments on the first blogger`s site and the other guy was a former candidate for the governor of->Delaware!
i can see why the organizers won`t move the fest to cincinnati....

6. Thanks, Sapphocrat
I'm just astounded that this is the kind of image-- Jean Schmidt aside -- that Cincinnati wants to project to the world.

7. I could not stomach reading much of it
I wonder if perhaps it's a 'random' thing; like how google ads will advertise some really inappropriate things based on keywords in a story, or if it really is some kind of popular blog for Enquirer readers.

I do know that if you want to see racist, homophobic, rightwing bullshit, you can read the comments on many of the Enquirer's stories; some of the comments can be quite disgusting. I'd like to think they don't represent Cincinnati as a whole, but... they still suck.
