Santorum calls gay staffer a 'trusted employee'

During a visit to the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Township, Santorum said there's no contradiction between his criticism of homosexuality as a lifestyle and his employment of the gay staff member, director of communications Robert L. Traynham.

"I think it squares very clearly with my public positions on every other issue, which is that I treat people fairly, I treat people equally, I treat people with dignity and respect, and irrespective of what they may or may not do outside of work," said Santorum, R-Penn Hills.

Santorum called the publicity about Traynham's sexual orientation "bigoted and mean-spirited."

In April 2003, after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a Texas law that barred sodomy, Santorum said the court was opening the door to legalized bigamy, polygamy and incest.

3. He reminds of a girl I once knew

that insisted that she wasn't a racist and that she treated blacks, jews, hispanics, etc. with the proper respect - when pressed she also insisted that minorities really were inferior, and thus the proper respect was less than what whites deserved, but that didn't make her a racist in her mind, she was just being a realist by her way of thinking. I stopped speaking with my sister at that point.

I'm not a violent person, but if Santorum's head should, say accidentally be crushed by the weight of the hypocrisy he stores in it, well - I really wouldn't mind.
