Pew Research poll: Majority supports civil unions, same-sex marriage

(Washington) A new report based on a recent national survey by the Pew Research Center’s Forum on Religion & Public Life and the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press finds that a clear majority of Americans favor allowing gay and lesbian couples to enter into legal agreements with each other that would give them many of the same rights as married couples, a status commonly known as civil unions. This finding marks a slight uptick in support for civil unions and appears to continue a significant long-term trend since the question was first asked in Pew Research Center surveys in 2003, when support for civil unions stood at 45%.

Over the past year, support for civil unions has grown significantly among those who oppose same-sex marriage while remaining stable among those who favor same-sex marriage. At the same time, opponents of same-sex marriage continue to outnumber supporters overall. Conducted Aug. 11-27 among 4,013 adults, the poll finds that 53% oppose allowing gays and lesbians to marry legally, compared with 39% who support same-sex marriage, numbers that are virtually unchanged over the past year.

2. The subject line is a bit misleading

Although a majority support civil unions, they do not support same-sex marriage.

3. It still makes me furious that folks get to have a vote on my personal rights

I say to them f k off and die.

This polling for opinion and taking that to overrule my right to be with who I want or who I want my assets to go to when I die.

Without legal marriage or separate but unequal or something like it we get a raw deal when one dies, and I have seen it over and over, their 'blood family' acts like carrion birds and come in and steal everything your and your partner worked for, what is really fucking galling is that the greediest ones are usually the b-----ds that have not have a kind word with the dead spouse in years or decades, no contact whatsoever not even when they find out that person is in hospital dying of cancer, aids, heart disease or whatever, but especially hiv patients.
They wait until that person cannot say no or refuse and force them to sign a new will in some cases. Most cases they have the will overturned

A couple I knew were together for 25 or so years, one died of aids related heart condition, but while he was in hospital Mom, sisters, and a brother swooped in kept his parter out of the hospital room and wrote a new will (he had had his pre decease will probated and that should have settled it) and while this guy was in dementia state held his hand with a pen and 'signed' a new will, bribed a judge to hear the case and ta-da the other was left without sh-- they took all three cars, house, furniture and left him penniless and they were both well off, and had left an insurance benefit to the family something like 3-4 million, but they had to have it all.

The house was in both names so were the cars and bank accounts. Aside from the 3 or 4 million insurance that went to mum, she also got the 2 m in the bank, the house was worth about 400,000.

They bought it as a burn out and rebuilt it themselves. The joint bank account was $ they had both earned in their careers about equally. They were retired, mostly due to health in their late 50s

Why is it ok to steal a lifes work and savings from a fag, why the hell is it up for a fucking vote?
