Group disrupts Gay Day at Phillies game
PHILADELPHIA - (KRT) - The Phillies found themselves in the middle of the culture war as well as the National League wild-card race Thursday night.

As the Phillies played the Washington Nationals, a confrontation developed in the upper deck at Citizens Bank Park between Repent America, a fundamentalist Christian group, and fans, many of whom were attending the game as part of a gay pride group.

This is the third year for Gay Day, which featured a national anthem performance by the Philadelphia Gay Men's Chorus and a first pitch from Cyd Ziegler of Outsports.com.

It's also the third year Repent America's Michael Marcavage has attended in protest of the event. Marcavage and another man held a sign that read, "Homosexuality Is a Sin, Christ Can Save You" at the top of Section 303 in right field.

1. good for the Phillies for having Gay Night
but bad for them for allowing this kind of crap to go on

I'm sure that if a bunch of atheists demonstrated on "Christian Family Day", they'd be hauled out by their short and curlies

2. Not if it is a publicly owned ball park
In many cities the ball parks are owned by the city or county. That causes the first amendment to apply.

3. The Chicago Cubs have had a Gay Day for 3 years now.

Without incident. Everyone has a great time.

The Phillies should not have allowed that fundamentalist group in. It's clearly a political group designed to disrupt the gay fans there.

4. a right they have under the first amendment
They have every right to protest our presence at the ball park or anywhere else they might wish to do so. That is why these things are called rights. Once we start deciding who gets to have rights and who doesn't we are acting just like they do.
