1. It's an excellent program. I'm straight, and it has really helped me to |
|
see the world through GLBT eyes. Not only that, it's just a very interesting newsmagazine show. Harvey's bit about people like, ah, me being "obsolete" is pretty funny.

4. I watch it when I can, but public TV here in Kansas City ... |
|
... runs it late at night, so I sometimes forget when it's scheduled. I do love Harvey's commentary, though.
Interestingly, the book Harvey cites in his piece, The Soul Beneath the Skin, didn't strike me as being a very credible source. Seems like it was written to put the most positive spin on statistics (the mirror image of right-wingnuts like Paul Cameron who will twist statistics to put the worst possible spin on gay issues). For instance, one of the stats featured in the book are that there are less disturbance calls made from gay bars than straight bars. D'uh! I don't think that reflects that there are less disturbances ... just that gay bar owners and patrons realize that police are less like to respond or, when they do, they will be handled in a much less "friendly" manner than the same type of call at a straight bar.

5. it is on late, but you can watch it at the web site. there are far |
|
fewer incidents at our bars, definitely.
both books are mentioned in that "Out Take" because they presented groundbreaking theories. other aspects are not involved in the specifics raised there by Harvey.
there's always some shortcoming to any book, philosophy, theory, etc.
peace!

Much more in depth than anything else on TV w/GLBT content. (Queer Eye for the Straight Guy?? Pleeeeeeaaasseee)
The media episode, hosted by J. Garofalo was spectacularly researched with some great guests (including the normally unbearable Nancy Grace making good use of her "fry the bums" rhetoric for once) and a solid refutation of the anti-gay, pro-propangda bent the media has had since the "election".
