Disgusting....Americans see DADT as discrimination
Withers: Americans see DADT as discrimination
James Withers
By James Withers, contributing editor, 365Gay Blog 02.11.2010 9:21am EST

Can’t wait to see how Sen. John McCain spins this survey. According to a recent poll American voters see DADT as discrimination and think its time to end the policy.

According to the Quinnipiac University poll 57 percent of American voters think gays and lesbians should be allowed to serve openly (36 percent disagree). A higher majority, 66 percent, describe the policy as discrimination.

“By a solid margin, American voters say go ahead and allow gays to openly serve in the military,” said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. “Voters think 2-1 that keeping gays from serving is discrimination. But they are much more mixed on exactly how the transformation of the military will occur and how the Pentagon should adjust to the needs of gay soldiers, sailors and Marines.”

Let the gays die for the country, but don't let them marry in it.

1. If they would just change the policy
I guarantee it would be a non-issue within 30 days, and people would even more overwhelmingly approve.

2. The best ally you have for full civil rights in marriage is time
because as it's recognized in state after state and the entire moral collapse of that state just doesn't happen, it paves the way for a change in the hearts and minds of knee jerk idiots who are too easily manipulated by hysterical preachers hoping to increase tithing.

3. Here's the Problem With That Theory
Religious jackasses can and do blame EVERYTHING on gay people. Witness Pat Robertson still being allowed to talk into a microphone after his comments about 911 and New Orleans. They don't need an actual "moral collapse"; they will take anything: a twister, an earthquake, high unemployment rate, drop in donations, etc, etc, and turn THAT into a "moral collapse". And the stupidly religious will eat that shit right up.

You are correct that gay equality is an inevitability with time. However, religious fucktards will be exploiting their sheeples ignorance and fear the entire way. We won't get equality when religious people will wake up. We'll get equality when NON-religious people start refusing to let the country be driven by religious morons.

6. Time is your ally there, too
because that religious right old guard who built up that incredible machine/empire are all dying off. The younger ones taking their places lack their charisma, their cachet, and their ability to hide the empire building from the stupid. Like the Roberts heirs, they talk the talk while using Daddy's organization as a cash cow and living lives that would make Caligula blush.

In the meantime, the prosperity theology they used to hook the dumb and desperate has worn thin as the only ones to prosper were the ones raking in the tithes, tax free.

There is nothing as unstoppable as an idea whose time has come. That goes for good ideas as well as bad ones.

7. I Think There Will Always Be Religious Hucksters Making a Profit on Stupid People
However, I agree with you that gay equality's time has, if not yet come, then at least is shortly due. I expect same sex marriage and an open service military both within the next 25 years.

4. If you're gay, you CAN die for your country.
Just as long as you shut up about the stuff that should be important to us all, family, friends, life in general. If the other soldiers or your commanding officer is talking about the last time they had leave and their wives and children, you can shut the hell up because we say so.

Finally that whole respecting each other's life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness thing? It only applies if you're not gay. Why is that? Because we say so, and in the history of the U.S. the majority has never been wrong....

Ever.

Q3JR4.
:sarcasm: If I really need this. :sarcasm:

5. I think we should charge people for the privilege of saying they are gay
We can give them renewable memberships, you know, day pass, monthly, quarterly, GOD (gay on demand) and lifetime membership.

Oh don't forget the family memberships - one flat rate covers everyone.

what the hell.

Accommodating us? We're already there. Are we gonna hafta show our membership card now or have it printed on our IDs, like our eye color?

seriously. what the hell?
