THE BLACK LGBT MANIFESTO: INVISIBLE NO MORE
In the midst of so much positive change and continued challenges, a universal celebration is truly and aptly underway. The banquet has begun and the abundance of nourishment and libation fill the table to overflowing. Revelers of every sort sit side by side as brothers and sisters, husbands and wives, parents and children, co-workers and cohorts, old and new friends, former foes and the newly freed, black and white, brown and yellow, gay and lesbian, bi and trans.
In the midst of so much positive change and continued challenges, the LGBT community has indeed secured a seat at the banquet table. And that is good and powerful and encouraging.
But the monolithic viewpoint of who the LGBT community is belies the realities of – not only it’s vast nuances – but of its mighty parts that are separate, cooperating and vitally self-identified communities within the larger community, within the American community.
One such separate, cooperating and vitally self-identified community is the Black LGBT Community.
