Long-time RW caller (Stephanie Miller show) breaks down in tears over gay sister's suicide
"Jerry from Chicago", a regular wing-nut caller to Stephanie Miller's morning show, broke down in tears this morning after revealing that she had committed suicide last week.

He was saying that she left a note, and while he didn't get into the details of the note, seemed to imply that she felt lots of guilt over being gay, and that Jerry and several other members of the family contributed to those feelings of guilt.

He was actually incredibly distraught, and clearly wracked by guilt. He managed to make a mention urging Congress to end DADT. I hope someone can post the audio at some point...

4. It seems that there are a lot of people
that do not understand compassion until it hits close to home. Some never do because their hearts are so hard and cold.

By the way this has effected him, he did love his sister, then why do these people have such a hard time letting people live their lives??
I would assume his sister was not hurting anyone, just that she was different, and his family had a hard time living with that.

As I look around this country today I am saddened by all the hate that exists.

5. I'm Impressed
with the compassion shown by the show and the callers. The guy has been a bit of an ass in the past, and is used as a bit of a comedic element of the other side for the show.

I can't see any of the right wing shows forgetting all that and showing the amount of compassion callers and show staff has shown him.

8. I don't know. I would think RW Jerry himself thinks, "Once a killer, always a killer."

13. I am too
Steph even called Jerry back to make sure he was OK and to make sure that he knew of where he could get help from.

I remember one of his early called where Jerry did a little free advertising for Savage. But I could not see Michael "I hope you get AIDS and die" Savage, Rush Limbaugh, or Glenn Beck even showing 1/10000 the compassion that Steph, mooks, and the listeners showed to Jerry.

7. I wrote to their associate producer--
I am not a professional but do live in the chicago area and am familiar with talking to families of gay kids as a volunteer with our local GSA. It is so very sad that families cannot understand the depth of feelings until a tragedy occurs in their own life. Why,oh why?

9. What a Tragic Way...
to finally realise that hate kills. I hope that if anything comes of it, that RWJerry takes this to heart and stops hating on GLBT people. Maybe also that he can get through to others that hate kills. How sad his sister felt so unloved that she felt she had to end her life. I hope that he can truly become a force for love and acceptance.

12. I guess some people are just empathy-challenged -
don't realize it could happen to them or theirs until it does.

I tried to find a clip of the call on youtube. I would like to hear it just to see how Stephanie handled it. So sad.
