Same-sex marriage is not about religion |

Marriage is now and always has been a piece of secular civil contract law. That’s the only form the government cares about; the religious trappings are just window dressing. http://www.cnn.com/2010/OPINION/08/15/Allen.same.sex.marriage.pulpit/index.html

It involved a JP and city hall. A ship's captain could have performed the ceremony. The filing of the certificate at city hall was the only legally binding part of the ceremony, and that which conferred on us all the rights and responsibilities of a marital partnership.
