A question from a newly out member - how do GLBT residents of small-town USA

I became curious after going to two gay bars in... of all places... Gun Barrel City,Tx.

The larger town that I work in has no known gay bars... the gays travel to dallas... and Gun Barrel City.
How do you find like minds?

1. The Internet is a great starting point...

Especially in more rural areas. I gave the same information to a friend in the UP of Michigan. Even if there isn't someone 'close' to you there you can still get resources on other places to look.

And Gun Barrel City? I don't think I'd like to live in a town with that name. It'd creep me out.

2. lol..my partner lives in Seven Points (pop 1200) - across the bridge

it IS a big tourist community.
Contrary to what my friends'preconceived notions were- most of the glbt clientele were lower middle-class adults aged 40 and up.

We were taken there by an acquaintance we met coincidentally.
We have gone back several times...that's where the fun is in Gun Barrel City.
